Your Opportunity:

Under general supervision from the Allied Health Assistant Manager and support from the PT Clinical Practice Leader, this Physiotherapist I position is primarily responsible to providing direct patient care within our In-patient team. The present caseload for this position is in the Emergency Department. As a Physiotherapist I, you will be working both independently and in an interdisciplinary team providing a range of physiotherapy services to patients and families within the established standards, directives and policies for the work environment and the profession. You will provide guidance to other healthcare professionals and clinical direction to therapy assistants, support personnel and students. You will review clinical referrals, screen and assess client needs from a physiotherapy perspective in collaboration with other health disciplines as appropriate. You will be developing, planning and implementing physiotherapy services in cooperation with other disciplines in the hospital and community, and establishing and maintaining effective communication with colleagues, medical staff, and health care practitioners concerning treatment plans, progress and discharge. Excellent organizational and time management skills to efficiently organize and prioritize workload to keep pace in a busy multi-disciplinary patient care environment, are required. Problem solving, critical thinking and conflict resolution skills, are essential in this position. This position is physically demanding and requires repetitive lifting and transferring of patients and/or equipment. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations.

Description:

As the Physiotherapist I (PT), you will provide therapeutic interventions to enable clients to achieve optimum physical function and independence in development, disease, disability, chronic conditions, illness and functional decline. You will provide intervention (i.e. prevention, triage, screening, assessment, diagnosis, goal setting, treatment, management, education, consultation, fostering resourcefulness, case management, referral and transition support to individuals, groups, populations and communities. You will include clients and families as integral members of the health care team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care. The PT collaborates with patient(s) and families in determining, implementing and evaluating appropriate rehabilitation strategies. You will participate in a variety of interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich supports and engage in quality improvement; partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families and other stakeholders to advance services for their clients. You will contribute to quality improvement and their professional community; participates in peer mentoring; and supervises students. You may provide clinical supervision to Therapy Assistants, Therapy Aides and Provisional Physiotherapists.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program. Current registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Completion of Master's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification required. 2 years or more of full time experience in an adult urban acute care medical or surgical unit setting as a Physical Therapist within the past 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

Identified experience providing Physical Therapy support in the Emergency Department and/or Intensive Care Unit of an adult urban acute care/hospital setting within the past year. Experience assessing for and providing equipment recommendations. Strong discharge planning skills and knowledge of rehabilitation programs and community supports.
