What you will do

As a member of the Parks team, you will be responsible for data collection, analysis, and maintenance in support of New Brunswick's provincial parks and tourism industry. Varied data points include items such as: Provincial Park and Trail assets - buildings, roads, trails, water and wastewater systems, ecosystem, and land use plans; Sport - arenas, pools, fieldhouses, courts; Culture ¿ heritage sites, galleries and performance venues; and Tourism - accommodations, tours and events, festivals and demographics. Job responsibilities include:

  • Gathering assets and attribute data from various data sources using manual entry, computer mapping software, Field Data Recorders and Global Positioning Systems
  • Development and maintenance of geographic information systems (GIS) data and enterprise geodatabases
  • Development and management of web and mobile apps within the ESRI platform
  • Assignments to support GIS deliverables for capital projects
  • Performing quality control and exporting datasets for distribution internally and publicly
  • Responding to information requests by querying, analyzing the results, and presenting the information to clients
  • Leading the utilization of spatial data to enhance business intelligence and decision-making processes
  • Other related duties as required

Work Environment

  • Predominately within an office environment at Marysville Place, 20 McGloin Street, Fredericton
  • Regular fieldwork opportunities requiring travel throughout the province
  • Normal work hours are Monday to Friday, 8:15 to 4:30 with flexible hours required on occasion
  • Working amongst a supportive team

Need to have

Engineering and Field Level 3:

  • A diploma from a recognized two (2) year post-secondary technology program in a related field, and a minimum of two (2) years progressively responsible related work experience including recent experience operating within the ESRI software suite or related GIS software
  • Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New-Brunswick
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Written and spoken competence in English is required

If there are no applicants with the above essential qualifications, we may consider applicants with the following qualifications and appoint at a lower classification:

Engineering and Field Level 1:

  • Diploma from a two (2) year Civil Engineering Technology program
  • Must be a member, or be eligible for membership, in the New Brunswick Society of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license as issued by the Province of New Brunswick
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered
  • Written and spoken competence in English is required

Nice to have

  • Knowledge and/or experience with ESRI products including Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, ArcGIS Pro, Web GIS (including mobile apps, cartographic mapping, data structuring techniques, and familiarity with relational databases (Oracle, MS-SQL) and modern programming languages/tools (such as SQL, Python, R, FME, Talend)

Wage

Engineering and Field Level 3: $1,622.00 to $2,036.00 bi-weekly

Engineering and Field Level 1: $1,348.00 to $1,713.00 bi-weekly
