About this opportunity:

Join our Cybersecurity Research Team at Siemens Foundational Technologies in Fredericton NB, Canada! We care pivotal to Siemens' operative business, offering research and pre-development in the area of Cybersecurity and Trust technologies. The team contributes to safeguarding critical infrastructures, products, and solutions, as well as protecting sensitive information and enabling new business models.

We seek a dynamic leader to develop new cybersecurity solutions for industrial systems and applications. Our team provides research services, pre-development, prototyping, technology evaluation, assessments, technology consulting, and security standardization. We are innovators, researchers, engineers, and consultants with a passion for industrial cybersecurity. We secure assets and networks in various domains, such as smart grid systems, healthcare services, factory automation as well as intelligent building and transportation systems.

What will I do?

As Research Group Head, you will develop the group’s research and pre-development capabilities and adjust the portfolio to customer and market demand. Employee leadership, talent acquisition, and development are expected. Collaboration with internal stakeholders and academic partners is crucial.

Responsibilities:

People management:

  • Line management and coaching for researchers, interns, and contractors
  • Steering target setting and performance monitoring; developing capabilities of researchers, consultants, and project managers.

Business operations:

  • Budget management for the research group
  • Acquisition of projects from Siemens business units
  • Operational excellence in project delivery and finance

Strategy development:

  • Definition of the Research Group’s business strategy; identification of growth areas
  • Alignment with central strategic Siemens Company Core Technology (CCTs) program and the Technology Field research agenda.

Business development:

  • Analysis of customer and market needs
  • Definition of new portfolio elements for the Research Group
  • Building resources and capabilities accordingly to meet customer demand/needs

Program management:

  • Management of customer and research projects
  • Assignment of resources to projects
  • Development of project execution excellence

Collaboration:

  • Building a Siemens-internal network to convert research results into business impact
  • Development of relationships with Siemens business units
  • Collaboration with other Research Groups in the Siemens Technology organization.

Location – Based out of our Cyber Center office in Fredericton, New Brunswick. This is a hybrid role with office presence required of 1-2 days a week minimum.

What will I need to qualify for and succeed in this position?

  • A Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or related fields required. PhD preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience as a Researcher and Engineer in various areas of cybersecurity.
  • People Leadership: Supervisory experience or program/project management engagement leading teams in an R&D environment.
  • Technical knowledge in multiple areas of cybersecurity.
  • Domain expertise in at least one of the business domains Siemens supports (Digital Industry, Smart Infrastructure, Rail, Healthcare).
  • Technical and hands-on knowledge in current attack methods, cyber defense approaches, managed security service portfolios, and in mitigating cybersecurity risk in the industrial domain.
  • Established networks within Canadian and international academia/research institutions.
  • Excellent interpersonal English language communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Experience working with dynamic and international teams with strong customer service orientation and collaboration skills; experience working in a virtual environment.
  • Willingness to travel 20% (domestic + international).
