Role Responsibilities

The Engagement and Indigenous Initiatives Branch plays a leading role in the development and delivery of engagement processes that support government decision-making and ensures the sustainable management of Alberta’s air, land, water and biodiversity. The Branch also develops and delivers environmental education programs that foster shared public stewardship of the province’s natural resources. We are looking for a talented and passionate individual with a successful track record utilizing public participation and environmental education approaches to manage a team of Engagement and Education Specialists.

As the Provincial Engagement Manager you will provide proactive and strategic advice to support the design and delivery of provincial engagement and education initiatives that advance the department's goals, while ensuring alignment with broader government objectives. In addition to managing engagement initiatives that support the Ministry’s strategic priorities, the Manager builds our corporate culture by promoting a positive and productive working experience for all team members.

The primary responsibilities for the Provincial Engagement Manager include, but are not limited to:
• Coordinating all aspects of the Ministry’s engagement process, including outcome and objective setting, technique selection, stakeholder mapping, risk assessment, data analysis and evaluation.
• Building strong relationships and collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders.
• Supporting stakeholder engagement activities undertaken by the Minister and senior officials, including developing briefing materials, providing coordination support as needed, and tracking and reporting all related activities.
• Providing strategic leadership, advice, analysis and comprehensive guidance to senior leadership on priority engagements.
• Guiding the Ministry’s province-wide environmental education initiatives.
• Leading a team of engagement and education specialists.

The Provincial Engagement Manager guides the Ministry's approach for understanding public and stakeholder perspectives to support the development of policies, programs, regulations and legislation. In conducting this work, the Manager provides a bridge between department policy makers, stakeholders, Indigenous communities and the public.

The Provincial Engagement Manager reports to the Director of Engagement and Education in the Engagement and Indigenous Initiatives Branch of the Strategic and Integrated Services Division.

About Your Work Environment
In this role, you will primarily be working in an office setting. You will have regular, on-going contact with Alberta Environment and Parks staff, other ministries and external stakeholder groups. Intermittent travel is required to various locations in Alberta to facilitate the delivery of engagement and education activities.

Qualifications

University graduation in a related field (Education, Communications, Public Relations, Community Engagement, Environmental Studies and Natural Resources) plus four years of progressive responsibility and directly-related experience. Directly-related experience can include: environmental education, stakeholder engagement, community relations or strategic communications with a diverse range of stakeholders. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis.

Preference will be given to candidates that have the following experience:
• Managing teams responsible for planning, coordinating and delivering public engagement and education activities within a large organization or government setting.
• Candidates with 6+ years of related experience along with related education.

Other assets would include:
• Membership and/or certification with the IAP2, CPRS, IABC and IAF.
• Project management certification and/or experience.

This position is a full-time permanent opportunity located in Edmonton.

This position works Monday to Friday, 8:15 AM-4:30 PM, 36.25 hours a week.
