The Volunteer Services Supervisor is the operational leader for the volunteer program supporting all Actionmarguerite living environments and that of our partner, Despins Charities. As a volunteer program guide and innovator, the Volunteer Services Supervisor shows an unwavering commitment to volunteerism; engages and educates staff and management in volunteer program delivery; recruits and orients new volunteers; and assists the Volunteer Engagement and Life Enrichment Manager in all facets of volunteer management to achieve organizational goals and objectives. Building and maintaining a diverse and talented team of volunteers is paramount for ensuring quality of life experiences are seen, heard and felt by all who live and work at Actionmarguerite as well as at Despins Charities sites. Collaborating with residents, clients, families, management and staff is key to successfully enhancing the professional services we provide- through volunteerism and for the benefit of those we serve.

Performs all duties in accordance with established health and safety regulations/guidelines, policies and procedures (i.e. utilizing personal, protective equipment as per safe work procedures). Notifies management or supervisor of all occurrences, injuries, illnesses or safety and health concerns which are likely to harm themselves, their co-workers, or any others who enter the premises.

Starting Date: As soon as possible
Shift and Hours of Work: 1.0 FTE - full-time - days, currently 08:00 - 16:15
Pay Scale: As per established salary scale
Specifications: Assignment and hours of work are subject to change at any time as per operational requirements.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Post-secondary education, with a focus on volunteer management, business and/or human resources is a strong asset;
  • Recognized Volunteer Management Certificate;
  • Affiliation with Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada required;
  • Combination of education and experience may be considered.

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years of recruitment experience;
  • Experience in long term care, geriatrics or gerontology and individuals with developmental disabilities is an asset;
  • Experience working with youth, seniors, and newcomers to Canada is an asset.

Abilities and Skills

  • Communicate in both official languages (French and English) or an expressed commitment to learn some French in support of active offer is required;
  • A coaching mindset to influence and educate internal and external stakeholders, to promote a volunteer culture and to ensure a strong framework for volunteer program success;
  • Organizational agility and savvy both through formal channels and an informal network to execute on volunteer activities, in part this requires working to understand and respect the origin and reasoning behind key policies, practices, and structure so that abundant volunteer resources are appropriately and effectively leveraged;
  • Marshal resources (people, funding, material) to support various volunteer initiatives while orchestrating multiple organizational activities;
  • Possesses excellent public speaking, and communication skills (both written and oral), with the ability to tailor messages for different audiences;
  • Personable and socially intelligent with a desire to work with diverse populations to build constructive and effective relationships and where needed, to appropriately manage or diffuse difficult or unexpected situations comfortably;
  • Promote cooperation, collaboration and partnerships between individuals or groups both inside and outside of the organization fostering mutual accountability within team settings to achieve group results while ensuring everyone understands each other’s roles, responsibilities and contributions;
  • Establish and nurture a wide network of community connections to attract volunteers and promote Actionmarguerite as well as Despins Charities as innovative leaders for the people we support and the people with whom we work;
  • Proficiency with social media, resume databases and professional networks with experience in using social media to proactively source volunteer candidates.
  • Ability to function in a computerized environment with programs such as Better Impact, Microsoft Office suite and virtual communication resources (e.g. Zoom and Teams);
  • Demonstrates excellent data entry accuracy and attention to detail;
  • Ability to utilize external online platforms, including but not limited to Volunteer Manitoba, Volunteer Match, Volunteer Management Professionals of Canada, Volunteer Canada, Indeed, etc.;
  • Familiarity with community resources;
  • Ability to build community relationships, and networks to meet hiring goals.
  • Ability to demonstrate a satisfactory employment record, including attendance;
  • Current Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector and Adult Abuse Registry Check deemed satisfactory by the Employer.

Demonstrates knowledge and supports:

  • The Canadian Code of Volunteer Involvement is an asset;
  • Actionmarguerite’s Vision, Mission and Values and Resident Bill of Right, policies and procedures;
  • Workplace Health and Safety and safe work practices;
  • W.H.M.I.S. program.
This position is designated bilingual (French/English). All staff are hired for the facility. Employees may hold more than one position in different Actionmarguerite facilities, where the sum total of hours does not exceed 1.0 full-time equivalence.
