West Fraser Electro/Mechanical Ltd. is a multi-faceted provider of services for and distribution of the critical equipment that supports continuous production industries. We work from a 28,000 square foot facility in Prince George, British Columbia, and offer in-shop and field repairs, maintenance, and technical services, as well as direct sales and replacements of industrial electric motors, generators, and components.

We are currently looking for a Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator to join our team.

The Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all of the EHS tasks for the facility. This role communicates with the necessary departments and ensures that all aspects of safety are completed, in accordance with the specific requirements. This position will also look after the administration of our Quality System.

What You Will Be Doing

The Environmental Health & Safety Coordinator is a Safety Professional, working with the Safety teams to ensure that WFEM is compliant and up-to-date on all responsibilities. This role is the main point of contact for Safety, ensuring successful roll-outs of initiatives and compliancy, as required.

  • Responsible for planning, advising and assisting in implementing company Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and procedures.
  • Ensure readiness for customer site prequalification (IS Networld, Avetta, etc.)
  • Meeting with the management team to define EHS goals and objectives.
  • Train employees on health and safety policies / best practices.
  • Conduct inspections to identify workplace hazards and EHS violations.
  • Provide solutions and intervention strategies for occupational hygiene, health, and safety hazards. Implement new protocols to assure compliance.
  • Generate documentation for incident and accident reports. Ensure corrective actions are reviewed and implemented by senior management.
  • Updating and maintaining Environmental, Health and Safety manuals.
  • Preparing and submitting health and safety compliance documents to the relevant organizations.
  • Keeping up to date on the latest EHS trends, policies, regulations, and best practices.
  • Act as the Safety Ambassador, attend and direct meetings, assign responsibilities and assist with follow up.
  • Develop and foster a workplace culture of health and safety.
  • Assist the company to maintain compliance with legislated OHS and environmental regulations.
  • Monitoring operational EHS processes and employee activities.
  • Assist in compliancy with both the company and industry quality assurance standards.
  • Document quality assurance activities and assist in the preparation and execution of audits.
  • Assist the team in the design and implementation of quality processes and procedures.
  • Maintain records for non-conformance processes, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

What We Need From You

  • 3 Years experience in a Health & Safety role
  • Knowledge of safety terminology, methods, tools, and regulations.
  • Strong computer skills, including Office 365.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Working Knowledge of ISO Quality system or Quality assurance would be an asset
  • Self Motivated with a Willingness to learn
  • Able to work well in a team environment, as well as independently.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Occupational Health and Safety certificate/ Diploma would be an asset
  • NCSO Certificate (National Construction Safety Officer) would be an asset
