Position Overview

We are currently seeking a Manager to join our Glass Line unit at our Manufacturing Facility in Edmonton, Alberta.

Job Summary

Production (50%)

  • Overseeing the employee workforce in the department
  • Managing scheduling for maximum workforce efficiency
  • Evaluating, adjusting, and creating new policies and procedures as needed for effective operations
  • Collaborate with Assistant Manager to supervise, coach and mentor 60-75 employees to perform work correctly to meet safety, quality, production, and cost requirements.
  • Develop and improve production processes to increase yield
  • Establish clear communication channels between departments
  • Develop a positive workplace environment and culture that is characterized by teamwork, open and constructive communication, collaborative working relationships between employees and the leadership team.
  • Meet budget targets by tracking labor, wastage and expenses
  • Sustain the monthly KPI’S as per given target.
  • Control operating expenses within budget. Provide explanations of variances as they occur.
  • Ensure that production reporting and data collection is completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain quality standards through observation of employee work practices.
  • Participate in decision making with other production managers & team leaders, contributing to the effectiveness of meetings through preparation and participation.
  • Maintain safe work environment and foster compliance with OHS regulations for all employees.

Leadership (50%)

  • Help lead the team, ensuring adequate staffing levels.
  • Create an atmosphere for self-improvement by delegation of responsibility, encouraging voluntary cross-training and outside formal education.
  • Conduct performance appraisals and counsel departmental personnel.
  • Monitor the completion of tasks and ensure good performance and record on systems.
  • Develop improved processes, systems, procedures and maximize efficiency through innovation and creativity.
  • Ensure a positive, creative, diverse and collaborative work environment where employees own the success on the line they work in.
  • Establish an engaged workforce through mutual trust, open communication, teamwork, and recognition.
  • Review and approve payroll hours for all employees.
  • Minimize manpower costs through goal setting, careful scheduling, work-flow controls and continuous interaction with production associates
  • Partner with HR to effectively manage employee issues.
  • Work with HSE to develop modified work duties to ensure rapid return to work for injured employees.
  • Set achievable, measurable and challenging goals for all reports.

Required Experience

  • 7+ years’ experience as a manager or supervisory experience in a large scale, fast paced manufacturing/production environment is preferred.
  • Proven ability to meet budget and daily targets.
  • Lean manufacturing knowledge/skills is an asset.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of OHS regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience working with diverse cultures and a varied workforce.

  • High comfort level working autonomously and require little day-to-day oversight and direction.

Educational Qualifications

Diploma in Operations Management or Business Administration.

Equivalent Experience will be considered.

Working Conditions

  • Lifting and/or carrying anywhere from 0llbs to 100llbs.
  • Work in a production facility and in an office.
  • Repetitive movements and work.
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Involves sitting, walking, standing, bending, stooping on a regular basis.
  • Walking near to heavy tool and moving machinery.
  • Exposure to all types of weather conditions, and dirt, dust and noise.
  • Flexibility in scheduling depending on production demands.
