About the role
Join the Data Analysis team as a Senior Economist. In this role, you will plan, manage, and contribute to rigorous research to address major housing issues in Canada.
This is a temporary position of 13 months.
What you’ll do:
- Supporting research on a wide range of household and housing conditions, issues, challenges and solutions in relation to CMHC business areas, ensuring the quality, accuracy, timeliness and reliability of research and products.
- Conducting the development and application of new analysis and ensuring the data needed for analysis is obtained and available for internal clients.
- Developing logical, well-reasoned and cost-effective solutions to problems identified by internal/external clients in the areas of housing affordability, market stability, and housing finance.
- Leading the development of models and using statistical and mathematical analyses to test economic relationships. Ensure accurate input into new and existing CMHC econometric model suites.
- Defining standards for research methods and practice. Consulting and liaising with internal and external stakeholders to identify data and support needs.
What you should have:
- A postgraduate degree in economics (Master or Doctoral) with a minimum of 3 years related experience in advanced economic and market analysis, OR an equivalent combination of experience and academic training.
- Demonstrated experience providing analysis and researching socio-economic conditions as related to the housing market.
- Demonstrated experience in analyzing business and economic conditions and interpreting their impact on the housing market and business activities. Expert knowledge of advanced modelling and forecasting methods in time series or panel data.
- An understanding of the linkage between housing finance issues, regulations and public policies, housing markets and real economy.
- Strong communication skills in both English and French, including the ability to speak and write clearly and succinctly, and tailor the settings and styles to a variety of audiences.
- A demonstrated ability to work independently as well as part of a team to achieve common goals.
- A demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects within the prescribed timelines.
It would be great if you also had:
- A demonstrated ability to work with a variety of computer applications, including Python, Stata, and SQL. Knowledge of R, Power BI and SAS.
