Your Opportunity:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) is a self-directed practitioner who functions in an extended role in the area of General Medicine. This position is working in the collaborative team model within the Family Medicine team at Grey Nuns Hospital. In collaboration with the physicians, the NP provides direct patient care which includes comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, intervention, referral, management and evaluation of patient care across the continuum of acute health care services. All duties and responsibilities follow the guidelines developed by CRNA and policies and procedures of Covenant Health.
Description:
Reporting to the Senior Director, Operations or Program Manager, the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is employed in a variety of settings across the continuum of care including acute care and continuing care. The NP uses an evidence-informed holistic approach that emphasizes the nursing professions' values, expertise and education. The majority of time is spent in clinical practice where the NP role includes, but is not limited to, diagnosing and managing common and complex health conditions, promoting health and preventing illness/injury, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing pharmaceuticals, medical devises and other therapies and performing procedures, interventions and/or treatments. The NP performs restricted activities within their scope of practice as defined by Schedule 24 of the Health Professions Act, the Registered Nurses Profession Regulations, and the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). In some clinical settings, the NP is considered the most responsible provider. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the AUNP Collective Agreement.
Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program at a Master of Nursing level. Must possess relevant and recent clinical expertise within stream of practice. Must be eligible for licensure with CRNA as a Nurse Practitioner. Must be appropriately licensed with the clinical practice stream relevant to area of clinical employment.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Certification in Heart & Stroke Foundation BLS (Level C) Health Care Provider. A minimum of 3-5 years of previous in-patient medical/surgical nursing experience. Experience with discharge planning and case management. Excellent diagnostic, problem-solving & conflict resolution skills. Excellent verbal & written communication & interpersonal skills. Excellent leadership abilities, teaching & organizational skills. Demonstrated creativity, flexibility & initiative.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five (5) years’ experience as a NP preferred but will consider a combination of related background experiences & education with more novice experience in the NP role. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Experience working collaboratively with Hospitalist Program an asset. Experience with discharge planning and case management an asset. Experience with palliative care, wound management and orthopedic pathways an asset.
