The City of Edmonton is looking for a highly motivated and experienced individual for the position of Superintendent for City Hall. As the superintendent, you will be responsible for the safety and security of all individuals within City Hall while overseeing all security operations. This includes developing and implementing security plans, coordinating security personnel, and responding to emergencies.
The position also requires collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, including the Mayor’s Office and Council, the Office of the City Manager, Corporate Security, the Edmonton Police Service, and the Government of Alberta.

What will you do?
- Review and develop operational plans to ensure the safety and security of those within City Hall
- Develop and implement policies, procedures, and emergency plans to safeguard and protect against risks
- Analyse security related events and trends to facilitate current and future strategic goals
- Perform reviews and audits on contractor performance. Ensure that the services provided align with the contractual term of the agreement
- Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure appropriate practices and standards are established
- Communicate effectively with leadership and stakeholders
- Forecast, prepare, and develop an annual plan identifying the resources required to meet service level demands
- Review monthly cost statements and make suggestions that have impact on budget, costs, savings, operational resourcing and ensure cost effective initiatives are being met
- Manage budgets and contracts
- Manage contractors to ensure the appropriate level of service
- Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies, Business, Criminology, Sociology or a related field
- OR a 2 year Diploma program from a recognized post-secondary institution in combination with related (or relevant) experience may be considered
- Must have been a serving Police Officer or Peace Officer Level 1 within the past 5 years and holds the Provincial Peace Officer I designation
- Peace officer status or ability to obtain Peace Officer status is a requirement of this position
- Customer or public service security management experience, including experience in a law enforcement field at a supervisory level which includes, program development, strategic planning & evaluation, budget management, supervision, research, and media relations
- Project Management Professional (PMP), Change Management certification
- Certified Protection Professional (CPP) designation
- A provincial Investigator & Security Services Licence
- Knowledge or training in harm reduction, anti-racism, indigenous awareness and GBA+
- Incident Command System (ICS) 300 or above
- Extensive knowledge of internal and/or external regulatory legislations and how they can be applied within the scope of the Community Standards Peace Officer Section, this includes City of Edmonton policies, Municipal Bylaws, Provincial Acts, legislation and policies and Federal Acts
- In depth knowledge of the Peace Officer Act, the Peace Officer Ministerial Regulation and the Public Security Peace Officer Program Policy and Procedures Manual
- In depth knowledge regarding the application of force within the parameters of Section 25 of the Criminal Code of Canada
- Excellent communication, negotiation and problem resolution skills involving multi-party interests
- Demonstrated problem solving, research, engagement, decision-making and analytical abilities
- Skilled in exercising tact, sound judgement and firmness in dealing with difficult situations and with the public
- Demonstrates understanding and embraces a culture of equality, diversity, reconciliation and inclusion
- Excellent knowledge of criminal law and of legislation respecting property access, access to information and Human Rights

- Up to: 1 permanent, full-time position
- Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Additional hours may be required.
- Salary: $89,766 - $128,237 (Annually)
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence (or provincial equivalent). Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Hire is dependent upon an Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search satisfactory to the City of Edmonton
- Must pass the PARE (Physical Ability Requirement Evaluation), COPAT (Correctional Officer’s Physical Abilities Test), POPAT (Police Officer’s Physical Abilities Test), or APREP (Alberta Physical Readiness Evaluation for police officers) physical fitness test prior to employment
- Management and Out-of-Scope positions at the City of Edmonton are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the Civic Service Union 52 bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly.
