The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service (ACPS) prosecutes persons charged with Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, and provincial statute offences. The ACPS promotes safe communities by vigorously prosecuting cases involving serious and violent crime and working with individuals and organizations in the community to identify and implement improved and alternative approaches to the administration of criminal justice.

The Business Analyst (BA) position resides within the Strategy and Innovation Unit of the Operations and Strategic Support Office (OSSO) in the ACPS. OSSO coordinates and collaborates across the division, the ministry, and beyond to ensure prosecutors always have their best day in court, and that the prosecution service as a whole is strategically positioned to achieve just outcomes through fair, fearless, and independent prosecutions.

Role Responsibilities

As a member of the Business Analysis team, reporting directly to the Manager of Strategic Initiatives and Reporting. Your key responsibilities are:

  • Providing a range of business analysis services for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Leading, participating and contributing to projects.
  • Providing training and operational support to applications specific to the ACPS.
  • Provide expertise and support for the identification, development and ongoing enhancement of existing applications while ensuring systems continue to operate in a manner that meets both policy and user needs.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of technological solutions, keeping in mind the unique demands of legal proceedings and maintaining the highest standards of data security.
  • Possessing overall knowledge of Ministry programs and services, process and the flow of matters through the court, justice and legal systems, in particular emphasis on business process improvement and redesign.
  • Performing problem tracking, risk analysis, root cause analysis to help lead and influence project teams to follow a structured approach to projects.


The Ideal candidate will possess the following.

  • Strong business analysis and change management skills and have the ability to anticipate needs and proactively gather information.
  • Strong Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of Visio or other modeling tools.
  • Working Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft OneNote.
  • Experience with process modeling techniques and methodologies.

Qualifications

University degree in a related field such as Business Administration, Criminal Justice or Computer Science or in a related field supplemented by a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience in business analyst role is required.

Equivalency: Directly related experience or education considered on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education or one year of education for one year of experience.

Required

  • Previous experience in delivering training on business processes.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills
  • Strong knowledge of change management, quality assurance, information management and implementation planning and integration activities.


Preference will be given to individuals with:

  • Completion of or enrollment in a Business Analysis Certification program from an accredited institution.
  • Membership in the International Institute of Business Analysis.
  • Experience working with justice stakeholders, applications and technical teams.
  • Strong understanding of system development lifecycle.
  • Overall knowledge of Ministry programs and services process and the flow of matters through the court justice and legal system.


The following experience is considered an asset:

  • Strong knowledge of the Alberta justice system.
  • Experience with the following applications:
    • Justice Online Information Network (JOIN)
    • Criminal eFile (CReF)
    • Prosecutor Information System Manager (PRISM)

  • This competition will be used to fill one permanent position in Calgary.
  • The hour of work is 36.25 hours weekly.
