About Our Opportunity
As the Coordinator, Financial Advisor Services, you will be responsible for leading and managing financial advisory services staff in the functions of accounting, budgeting, forecasting and financial consulting services for the client department(s).
You will be responsible for coordinating the preparation of accurate and timely financial information as needed, including annual budgets, monthly forecasts and other financial planning advice and analysis. You will manage the monthly and annual accounting procedures and the annual audit process. You will monitor and evaluate financial processes and transactions for compliance with the Public Sector Accounting Board (PSAB) and government accounting policies. You will also provide financial support and advice to clients within the Department of Service Nova Scotia and Internal Services through various projects and other assignments.
As the Coordinator, Financial Advisory Services, you will report to the Manager, Financial Advisory Services.
Primary Accountabilities
- Ensure client department’s financial information processing and reporting is accurate and timely and that client service standards are set, monitored and achieved.
- Provide client training.
- Preparation, analysis, and data entry of budget managers’ monthly forecasts of expenditures and revenues including providing accurate and timely monthly variance analysis.
- Preparation of the monthly forecast comparison report detailing changes in the Department’s budget.
- Preparation and analysis of spending trends and recommendations.
- Assists with the preparation of the departmental budget.
- Responsible for the month-end and year-end accounting processes.
- Responsible for design, modification, and updating of various reports as required by senior management.
- Responsible for timely updates of the corporate full-time equivalent software system.
- Responsible for updating salary data.
- Responsible for distribution and receipt of monthly forecast reports.
- Efficient and effective allocation of resources in managing the performance of your team.
Qualifications and Experience
This may be the right opportunity for you if you successfully completed high school and have three years of post-secondary professional accounting training with six years of related experience, including supervisory responsibilities. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be acceptable. A Bachelors’ degree in commerce or business administration and/or enrollment in the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) program will be considered an asset.
Knowledge of the corporate financial management system (SAP) or similar applications would also be considered an asset.
You are detail oriented, decisive and guided by generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and PSAB while applying an innovative approach to your work. You are proficient in programs such as Office 365 (Excel, Word, Outlook), enterprise resource planning systems, internet, and the ability to quickly learn custom applications is required. You enjoy learning new computer systems which allow you to find ways to streamline processes while maintaining business requirements and meeting tight deadlines. You have exceptional communication skills (Written and Verbal) with strong interpersonal and relationship building skills. You possess excellent time management skills, prioritizing work and resources to meet strict deadlines.

Pay Grade: TE 24
Salary Range: $2,370.01 - $2,791.38 Bi-Weekly
