Position Overview
Manitoba Adolescent Treatment Centre (MATC) is a Winnipeg-based Shared Health site for Child and Youth mental health services. MATC provides a full continuum of mental health services to children and youth with mental health and/or emotional disorders, and their families. See www.matc.ca for more information about services. Youth Forensic Services provides clinical services including assessment and treatment to youth involved in the criminal justice system, both for those in custody and within the community.
Reporting to the MATC Director of Psychology and working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Clinical Child Psychologist responsibilities involve a primary focus on services to youth involved in the criminal justice system, including court-ordered assessment related to psycho-diagnostic issues, bail, probation and sentencing decisions, as well as treatment services. Clients are those both in a custodial setting as well as in the community. Additional areas of responsibility may include psychological assessment and treatment for children and youth in other service areas for a range of mental health/emotional/behavioural issues; consultation with services area regarding youth at risk for criminal justice involvement; and consultation/supervision to students/staff as appropriate.
MATC Psychologists are appointed to Medical Staff through Shared Health’s Clinical Health Psychology specialty. Experience
- Education, training and clinical experience in diagnostic evaluation and cognitive assessment of children/youth including the administration and interpretation of standardized child/youth psychological tests and measures.
- Education, training and experience in evidence-based psychological treatment for children/youth with a wide range of emotional/mental health problems.
- Experience and training in providing treatment/assessment within a forensic setting, including conducting formal risk assessments, is preferred.
- Experience working with diverse cultural backgrounds is an asset.
- Experience in working with individuals who have experienced significant trauma is an asset.
Education (Degree/Diploma/Certificate)
- Doctoral Degree (Ph D or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology from a CPA or APA-accredited doctoral program.
- Successful completion of a CPA or APA accredited internship/residency in Clinical Psychology.
- Completion of clinical forensic psychology training, especially at the residency or postdoctoral level an asset.
Certification/Licensure/Registration
- Registered (or eligible for Registration) for full independent practice as a C. Psych. by the Psychological Association of Manitoba. (Supervision will be provided for individuals at the C.Psych. Candidate level until fully registered).
Qualifications and Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and inter-professional teamwork skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication.
- Flexible and excels in efficiency in completing time-sensitive court-ordered assessments.
- Position is subject to security clearance requirements for Manitoba Justice. Will be responsible for any service charges incurred.
