The City of Edmonton's Renewable Energy Systems Section has an exciting opportunity for you to lead communications for our ambitious District Energy Strategy.
The Role: As the Communications lead for District Energy, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative around this transformational initiative. You will develop and execute comprehensive communications and engagement plans to build public awareness, support and understanding. This is a chance to use your expertise to advance a key component of Edmonton's climate action goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership: Spearhead the development and implementation of integrated communications strategies that align with the District Energy Strategy's goals.
Stakeholder Engagement: Cultivate strong relationships with key stakeholders, including government officials, industry partners, community organizations and the public.
Compelling Content Creation: Develop and deliver impactful messaging and materials across various channels, including media releases, web content, social media and presentations.
Project Management: Oversee communications projects and materials, ensuring timely delivery within budget.
Strategic Counsel: Provide expert communications advice to the District Energy Strategy team and senior leadership. Maintain a broad understanding of corporate, departmental and City Council priorities, as well as stakeholder perspectives, to inform effective communications strategies.
Research and Synthesis: Conduct thorough research to understand complex technical topics and distill them into clear, concise, and easily understandable communications materials for diverse audiences.
Media Relations: Manage media inquiries and proactively engage with the media to promote the District Energy Strategy.
Qualifications:
- A Degree in a communications, public relations, or related field, supplemented by a minimum of two years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position OR;
- A Diploma in a communications, public relations or related field, supplemented by a minimum of 4 years progressively responsible experience in a designated public relations, public affairs or public information position
Skills required for success:
- Exceptional Communication Skills: Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication, with the ability to translate complex technical information into plain language. Extensive knowledge of communications planning and delivery principles, techniques and practices
- Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to develop and implement effective communication plans aligned with business goals. Experience or knowledge of related fields, such as advertising, creative services, audio and visual production, social media and content creation
- Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build collaborative relationships with colleagues at all levels, including senior leadership
- Project Management: Experience in self-directing work to manage projects, consultants and events. Superior issues identification and management skills along with proven client consulting skills
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines

Assets:
- Demonstrated understanding of effective public/stakeholder engagement tactics and strategy
- Existing knowledge of district energy systems, energy transition or previous experience in a climate-related field
Work Environment:
- This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite as per the Letter of Understanding between the City of Edmonton and Civic Service Union 52. The weekly hours of work for this position are currently under review and may change at a future time. Any changes will be made in accordance with the City of Edmonton/Civic Service Union 52 collective agreement and the incumbent will be notified in advance

Hours of Work: 33.75 hours per week, Monday – Friday
Salary Range: $ 46.149 - 58.155 (Hourly); $ 81,303 - $ 102,454 (Annually)
