The Opportunity

Mandate

The Director of Revenue Generation – Annual Giving & Gaming drives revenue growth by expanding the Foundation’s donor base and strengthening donor engagement. Reporting to the Chief Catalyst, Revenue Generation, this role provides leadership, strategic direction, and planning to optimize annual giving programs, including direct mail, monthly giving, digital direct response, and tribute giving. The Director is accountable for increasing donor numbers, loyalty, reactivation, and funds raised while managing lead-generation efforts such as gaming and transitioning donors to other giving channels.


Key responsibilities also include developing a comprehensive gaming strategy for UHF, integrating gaming activities with events, and overseeing the Full House Lottery. The Director collaborates closely with the Director of Finance & Analysis and the Director of Marketing, Communications, and Signature Events to ensure the lottery achieves its goals.


With a strategic, data-driven, and donor-centric approach, this role plays a pivotal part in advancing UHF's mission.


Key Accountabilities


Lead the University Hospital Foundation’s Annual Giving Programs

  • Strategically oversee annual giving initiatives, including direct mail, telephone, digital outreach, and monthly giving, while managing external partners to ensure success.
  • Analyze donor segmentation and giving patterns to acquire, retain, and cultivate donors, increasing revenue and strengthening the donor pipeline.
  • Identify and steward leadership-level, major, and planned-giving donors, fostering long-term relationships and advancing their impact.
  • Collaborate across teams to align donor engagement strategies, ensuring relationships progress positively and communications reflect the overall strategy.
  • Develop targeted strategies for campaigns like the Festival of Trees and Heart Month to maximize revenue and donor participation.
  • Lead memorial giving efforts in partnership with community organizations, enhancing donor experiences and outcomes.
  • Create and implement welcome series for new donors and subscribers to build lasting connections.
  • Integrate digital initiatives with broader fundraising activities to optimize engagement and results.
  • Monitor donor base health and annual giving performance, leveraging industry insights and consulting external experts as needed.
  • Achieve annual giving financial goals through strategic expense management, revenue optimization, and data-driven decision-making.

Gaming: Lotteries & Raffles

  • Develop and lead the execution of the overall gaming strategy for the University Hospital Foundation;
  • Achieve gaming-related financial targets, including revenue generation and expense management;
  • Seek out and respond to market information related to gaming at the local and national levels;
  • Lead the execution and management of the Full House Lottery, Festival of Trees 50/50 Raffle, and add-on gaming opportunities for the Foundation. Cultivate and maintain key relationships with community partners, external vendors, internal working groups, and other interested parties.
  • Identify and implement Lottery & Raffle opportunities to maximize revenue generation, donor engagement and community support.

People Leadership

  • Foster a culture of engagement, accountability, and performance.
  • Oversee the hiring, management, mentoring, training, and evaluation of an experienced, talented, and highly professional team that is well prepared to meet the ongoing opportunities and challenges of the Foundation.
  • Inspire the team to achieve the Foundation’s vision of becoming the Canadian leader in healthcare philanthropy that passionately engages the community.
  • Foster a strategic and creative approach to achieving the Foundation’s revenue goals such that all employees see themselves as ambassadors for revenue generation.
  • Illuminate a path to success for team members by promoting core leadership competencies, key performance indicators, and personal development goals.


First-Year Deliverables / Measures of Success

Success in the first year will be determined by the candidate’s ability to:

  • Build strong relationships with external partners that assist with annual giving and gaming execution;
  • Foster a spirit of collaboration internally and demonstrate strong relationships with key internal partners;
  • Understand the behaviors and preferences of our donors; and
  • Develop an understanding of the organization’s growth potential and the pathways towards future success.


Candidate Profile

The successful candidate will have the following:


Education:

  • University degree or college diploma; and
  • A CFRE designation is an asset.

Experience:

  • 8 to 10 years fundraising experience and donor database management in a known, professional fundraising environment;
  • 5 years progressive experience leading a team or teams;
  • Experience managing lottery or other gaming activities;
  • Comfort and experience building quantitative frameworks to support strategy development;
  • Experience analyzing large datasets;
  • Experience identifying key population segments in a donor database and tailoring fundraising approaches accordingly;
  • Proven track record of delivering exceptional growth across multiple annual giving programs, above industry benchmarks;
  • Proven track record of successfully designing and executing a data-driven strategy to increase donations; and
  • Experience managing external partners in the annual giving industry is considered an asset.

  • Strong technical abilities within Raiser’s Edge database and experience with excel spreadsheet management;
  • Thorough understanding of charitable tax receipting regulations;
  • Leader in change management;
  • Strong project management skills, with a proven ability to manage timelines and budgets;
  • Accommodating, mature, self-disciplined individual who is engaged in the Foundation’s goals;
  • Extremely professional with the ability to exercise discretion and good judgement representing the Foundation; and
  • Flexible in a fast-paced environment with high attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines with a sense of urgency.
