As a Senior Transportation Engineer in the Urban & Community Systems (UCS) division within the Public Spaces Delivery Business Unit, you will collaborate closely with teams across Infrastructure Services and other corporate partners. Your main role will involve supporting Urban Designers and managing projects from procurement to detailed design and construction.


Some of the program/projects UCS delivers include the Downtown Strategy program (e.g. Stephen Avenue, Revitalize 8th Street), public realm projects under the Main Streets & Transit Oriented Development programs (e.g. Ramsay-Inglewood Public Realm Improvements), complete street projects in established communities (e.g. 26 Avenue SW Improvements), pedestrian and cyclist infrastructure upgrades as part of the 5A Program, and the Stoney Trail - Memorial Drive interchange. You will be working in a team environment focused on achieving great city-building outcomes, and working in complex, non-standard urban environments is the norm.


Primary duties include:

  • Collaborate with the UCS team of Urban Designers and Engineers to oversee consultants and contractors, ensuring projects stay on schedule, within budget, and aligned with the masterplan vision.
  • Administer contracts to ensure they meet project requirements, reviewing and approving changes or extensions when necessary.
  • Evaluate project risks, explore procurement options, recommend contractor and consultant selection methods, and assist in the selection process.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with internal teams, community organizations, businesses, and partners to deliver exceptional service and successful projects.
  • Represent the project at community events, public meetings, and customer sessions to support project design and implementation.
  • Oversee project close-out by ensuring submission of as-built documents and Operations & Maintenance (O&M) manuals.


Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering, or a related Engineering field, and at least 4 years of relevant professional engineering experience obtained after receiving your P. Eng. designation and a current licensure as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA) complete with practicing status OR licensure and practicing status by the first day of work.   • Knowledge of project or design engineering standards within a government or consulting environment is required.
  • Experience in construction and contract management is considered an asset.
  • You have effective communication and presentation skills, project management skills, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances in a high-pressure environment.
  • Success in this position requires strong analytical, business planning and organizational effectiveness skills; the ability to lead and coordinate several strategic objectives; and the ability to balance technical requirements with nontechnical competing priorities.
