Your Opportunity: The Youth Addiction and Forensic Mental Health portfolio is looking for a skilled, enthusiastic, experienced candidate to join Edmonton’s long term addiction recovery treatment program. The Program is an intensive, inpatient treatment program for youth aged 12-18 years recovering from the harmful effects of substance misuse and abuse. The 8 bed program is 3 months in duration and youth are involved in individual, group, recreational and family counseling as part of their recovery plan. Youth also attend an onsite school and access healthy community activities with staff support. As an Addiction Counselor within the multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for assessment, individual & group counselling, program development, group facilitation, treatment planning and referrals. In addition to core clinical duties, all members of the team are responsible for ensuring the safe and secure care of the youth attending program. Your knowledge of adolescent developmental issues, substance abuse and concurrent disorders, as well as strong consultation, facilitation and teamwork skills are essential for your success. The successful applicant will have excellent assessment, treatment planning and case management skills within an interdisciplinary model of treatment. You will collaborate with families and professionals in the community and must have an awareness and familiarity with the provincial continuum of addiction services for youth and families. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. You will develop and implement treatment plans and provide a range of interventions which offer least intrusive and most appropriate services to clients and their families. You will also monitor and evaluate client progress and achievement of recovery goals and adapt treatment as needed. As an Addiction Counsellor III, you will depend on your excellent relationship building skills with clients, families, government staff and colleagues

Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Addictions or a combination of a bachelor's degree in a related field with course work in addictions. A related degree combined with a diploma related to addictions, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Individuals eligible for registration under the Health Professions Act (Alberta) must maintain active registration. Individuals may require authorization/permission under regulation to perform restricted psychosocial interventions and/or restricted activities Additional Required Qualifications: Minimum of 2 years’ experience providing counseling or therapy to adolescent clients. Experience working within a inpatient treatment setting. Certification is required in Suicide Prevention, First Aid/CPR and Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Preferred Qualifications: Preference given to candidates with experience in addiction and/or mental health settings. Preference given to candidates with a Master’s Degree in a relevant field.
