Manager, Communications

The Communications Manager works with a diverse group of specialists—communications, digital, stakeholder engagement, and brand experts—to drive the organization’s communications efforts through strategic consultation, project management, and process optimization; advises senior leaders on best practices in communication through consultation and planning; develops/implements communications plans and strategies in collaboration with senior leaders and project managers; creates and ensures adherence to Covenant Health’s corporate communication policies and procedures; builds trust and stewards reputation through effective communications and media strategies in managing issues impacting patients, residents, and the public. This position prepares senior leadership for media interactions; develops and maintains relationships with key media contacts, ensuring ongoing engagement and providing regular updates on organizational initiatives, milestones, and success stories; develops mentorship strategies to ensure employees are engaged and encouraged to grow into positions of greater opportunity and accountability; liaises with key communication leaders in government, and other entities to ensure effective external communications, engagement, and issues management; plans and allocates resources, authorizes and controls expenditures, and is accountable for managing departmental resources; monitors emerging trends in communications and stakeholder engagement within healthcare and the markets we serve; carries out other duties as assigned.

Bachelors Degree in communications, journalism, public affairs, marketing communications or a related discipline. Minimum seven years of proven experience managing communications, stakeholder engagement and/or media relations projects in a complex environment, preferably in the healthcare and/or public sector environment. Minimum three years’ experience managing and supervising staff. Demonstrated experience with print, broadcast, electronic media, including strong relationships with local media.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Proven leadership experience with a track record of success in strategy development, program management and delivery, including measuring and evaluating the effectiveness of integrated communications initiatives within large organizations; Proven large-scale, cross-functional project management skills; Strategic thinker with exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, able to anticipate challenges and develop effective solutions; Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate complex ideas to diverse audiences; Self-directed, with excellent organizational and time-management skills; In-depth knowledge of both digital and traditional marketing and communication channels, and how to leverage them effectively in an integrated marketing mix; Proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including media, partners, and internal teams; Experience in team leadership, mentoring, and fostering a collaborative, high-performing work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
IABC or CPRS membership; Firm commitment to the mission and values of Covenant Health; International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) training is a definite asset.
