External Relations Advisor

Overview
With more than 350 employees and over 75 years of experience, the Saskatchewan Research Council (SRC) is Canada’s second largest research and technology organization. We help clients from across the world solve complex technology challenges. SRC has a career opportunity for an External Relations Advisor to plan, execute and manage initiatives across the organization to achieve specific objectives for the External Relations (ER) team who provide leadership and oversight in the areas of Indigenous relations, communications, marketing and government relations.
Accountabilities
- Lead communications and marketing plans and campaigns, from research and development through to implementation, ensuring SRC’s goals and business objectives are achieved
- Develop, plan and execute Indigenous relations programs and projects, including supporting the advancement of SRC’s Indigenous Action Plan
- Write and edit a wide variety of communications and marketing materials (e.g. blogs, speaking notes, web content, internal communications)
- Collaborate with subject matter experts and key stakeholders to brainstorm ideas, create concepts and develop messaging
- Work with the ER team, internal staff, external clients and stakeholders to identify major emerging or anticipated issues, coordinating and executing strategies to address those issues
- Support community engagement and SRC’s communications with both local and Indigenous communities
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations or a related field
- Minimum 7 years’ experience working in a professional environment; relevant experience working in government or working with Indigenous communities is considered an asset
- Valid driver’s license - this position may require occasional travel within Saskatchewan
Skills
- General knowledge or understanding of project management principles, with the ability to develop and execute project plans to completion
- Strong organizational skills to manage projects with competing priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to a non-technical audience and deliver effective messaging to multiple groups of stakeholders and rights holders
- Strong stakeholder management and engagement skills
- Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with a high degree of discretion and professionalism
- Excellent problem solving, teamwork and attention to detail skills; quick learner with a versatile writing style
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, including SharePoint
The chosen candidate will be required to provide an original Criminal Record Check that is satisfactory to SRC prior to the commencement of any employment duties. The Criminal Record Check must have been executed within the preceding 30 days of receipt.
This position is located in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
