About Our Opportunity

Make a meaningful impact on housing availability in Nova Scotia through our Short-Term Rentals (STR) Program. This opportunity calls for a dedicated Short-term Rental Program Specialist to coordinate program delivery and compliance efforts. By overseeing third-party compliance reports, identifying actionable items, further investigating instances of non-compliance, and facilitating decision-making, the Program Specialist will play a crucial role in upholding the Short-Term Rentals Registration Act and related regulations. This role also involves assessing applications, mediating complaints, and managing program delivery across the province.

Primary Accountabilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supports administration and management, of the Short-Term Rental Program including compliance processes.
  • Mediates complaints and identified instances of non-compliance, which may include conducting investigations and recommending enforcement proceedings (administrative law or criminal proceedings) in accordance with departmental policies and government legislation.
  • Planning, developing, promoting, and monitoring new program initiatives.
  • Analysing and reporting on program outcomes, recommending improvements and ensuring effective implementation.
  • Managing contracts and communications.
  • Maintaining strong client and service provider relationships.

This position offers a unique opportunity to drive solutions in housing compliance across Nova Scotia.

Qualifications and Experience

This opportunity is perfect for you if you have a completed a related Bachelor’s degree combined with at least five (5) years of relevant experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

It is considered a strong asset if you have experience with compliance programs, including as an information officer, investigation officer, compliance and enforcement officer, or inspector.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Program or project management experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Excellent organizational skills, the ability to meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgement.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft applications, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, for managing data, preparing reports, and creating presentations.

We will assess the above qualifications and competencies using one or more of the following tools: written examination, standardized tests, oral presentations, interview(s), and reference checks.

Equivalency

We recognize equivalent combinations of training, education, and experience, providing opportunities for individuals with diverse backgrounds to contribute their skills and expertise. Equivalencies include, but are not limited to:

  • Completion of a related master’s degree and three (3) years of experience.
  • Completion of a related diploma and seven (7) years of experience.
  • At least nine (9) years of related experience.

Working Conditions

Your typical work week is 35 hours with 7-hour days. This role involves stringent deadlines and may require after-hours work as operations demand. You will work in a comfortable office setting while in the office

Pay Grade: PR 13

Salary Range: $2,556.10 - $3,107.16 Bi-Weekly
