The Sheriff’s Branch is dedicated to promoting safe and resilient communities, performing a wide range of activities in collaboration with other law enforcement and policing partners in Alberta. In addition to the office of the Chief, there are five directorates within the Branch: Court Security Services (CSS), Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Services (FWES), Protection, Communication, and Investigative Services (PCIS), Operational Support Services (OSS) and Sheriff Highway Patrol Services (SHPS).

Role Responsibilities
As the Digital Evidence Coordinator, you will manage digital systems critical to the Sheriffs Branch, including body-worn cameras (BWCs), in-car digital video (ICDV) systems, and the Digital Evidence Management System (DEMS). Reporting to the Manager of Technology & Information Service, you will supervise the Digital Systems Technologists and the Media Disclosure Analysts to ensure system functionality, legal compliance, and timely processing of digital evidence.

The position is permanent, full-time, working Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week

The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced criminal record check.
Please note that there may be multiple stages of the assessment process. Assessments will be conducted in-person at the Millbourne Professional Centre in Edmonton.

- Team Leadership: Supervise Digital Systems Technologists in system installation and troubleshooting, and Media Disclosure Analysts in preparing and managing court-ready multimedia evidence.
- Digital Evidence Management: Ensure digital media records meet legal standards, from secure storage to timely disclosure. Oversee multimedia processing, including redaction and data integrity checks.
- System Integration and Maintenance: Lead the integration of BWCs, ICDV systems, and related technologies with operational systems, ensuring reliability and minimal downtime.
- User Training and Support: Develop and deliver training on digital recording systems. Provide technical support and resolve user issues.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Work with internal teams and external stakeholders, including Crown prosecutors and FOIP officers, to meet legal requirements and deadlines.
- Technology Advancement: Research and implement new audio/video technologies. Participate in procurement and system upgrades to enhance performance.

- Creative Problem Solving: You will tackle integration challenges between in-car video and dispatch systems by developing innovative solutions. Your ability to propose and implement effective workarounds will ensure operations continue without disruption.
- A two-year technical diploma in a related field and 6 years of related experience.
- Directly related education or experience will be considered on the basis of 1 year of education for 1 year of experience or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
- For example:
- A related certificate and 8 years of related experience, or
- A minimum of 8 years of directly related experience in lieu of formal education.
- Experience in integrating video systems with operational technologies such as CAD and RMS.
- Professional designations such as Project Management Professional (PMP)
- Strong technical expertise in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of video/audio systems such as body-worn cameras (BWCs), in-car digital video (ICDV) systems, or similar or comparable systems used in law enforcement or other industries.
- Proven experience managing Digital Evidence Management Systems (DEMS) or similar digital media storage and management solutions.
- Knowledge of Government of Alberta and the Sheriffs Branch’s policies, processes, and practices, with an understanding of organizational structures and reporting relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to address complex technical issues, prioritize competing demands, and make informed decisions under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to interact with all levels of an organization and present technical recommendations effectively.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage confidential and sensitive information tactfully.
