Your day as a Product Design Assistant is a blend of hands-on design, collaboration, and learning from the product designer—perfect for developing technical and creative skills! Here is an overview of a Day in the Life of a Product Design Assistant:
9:00 AM – Start the Day & Team Meeting
Begin by checking emails, project updates, and feedback. Participate in the team meeting to align tasks and receive the latest updates from designers and developers.
9:30 AM – Sketching & Concept Development
Work on initial sketches or digital mockups based on the lead designer’s ideas. Join brainstorming sessions to explore design options that align with user needs and brand identity.
11:00 AM – Design Software & Prototype Adjustments
Use CAD software to refine designs, adjust layouts, or make changes based on feedback. Consult with the lead designer for guidance on complex points or new ideas.
12:30 PM – Recharge & Connect with Colleagues
1:30 PM – Collaborate with Engineering & Review Prototypes
Meet with engineers or the prototyping team to discuss the technical feasibility of designs. Visit the workshop if needed to see prototypes in progress and clarify design details.
3:00 PM – User Feedback & Revisions
Review user feedback or test results with the lead designer. Make necessary revisions to improve usability, aesthetics, or functionality of current designs.
4:30 PM – Documentation & End of Day
Document design changes and ensure specifications are accurate for execution. Note tasks for the next day and check in with the lead designer before wrapping up. Prepare your workspace with the tools and materials needed for cutting and assembly tasks.
Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the product designer, your main mission will be to actively assist the R&D team in creating structures, surfaces, and concrete products for functional and decorative use. You will support the product designer throughout the process with your manual skills. We are looking for an organized, dynamic, detail-oriented individual ready to take on new challenges. This role will allow you to work with a team of passionate and dynamic experts.
Creation :
- Read plans, diagrams, and schematics to determine processes;
- Skillfully assemble components, products, and materials through screwing, gluing, or welding;
- Use machines, equipment, and hand tools to cut, shape, drill, or adjust elements made of wood, laminate, plastic, metal, or rubber;
- Design and fabricate models, molds, templates, and test benches using appropriate techniques and materials.
Execution & Analysis :
- Weigh raw materials using scales and graduated beakers;
- Prepare equipment, tools, templates, and molds for concrete pouring;
- Participate in concrete pouring while following operational sequences;
- Perform necessary tests during preparation (pouring);
- Document processes and record obtained results.
Supply Management :
- Research and purchase raw materials, supplies, and components;
- Contact suppliers to gather information, negotiate timelines, and process purchases;
- Maintain inventory of raw materials, supplies, and components.
- DVS in cabinetmaking, auto body repair, welding-assembly, or a related field.
- Portfolio required: Provide a portfolio or document demonstrating your achievements and contributions to projects (design, conception, fabrication).
- At least 5 years of experience in a cabinetmaking workshop or a similar precision manual field.
- Stamina and dexterity to handle heavy materials and perform manual work.
- Ability to convey technical information graphically, orally, and in writing.
- Proficiency in measurement systems: Knowledge of imperial and metric systems (feet, inches, mm, cm, etc.) and basic calculations (ratios, proportions).
- Patience, curiosity, proactivity, and commitment to achieving the company’s quality standards.
- IT skills: Basic knowledge of Word and Excel; assets: proficiency in SketchUp and SolidWorks.
- Knowledge of materials: Expertise in cutting, assembling, and transforming materials.
- Training and coaching provided: Comprehensive expertise in concrete will be required in the medium or long term.
