Position Overview:

The Engineering Specialist provides technical leadership supporting fixed wing / rotary wing Aircraft Structural Integrity Programs (ASIP) and conducting analysis in support of aircraft maintenance and modification programs. This position requires the ability to work independently, be part of a technical team or lead a team of engineers.

What You Will Do:
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance within the engineering group;
  • Help define and maintain technical analysis standards within the group;
  • Support the development of analytical tools and software;
  • Develops analysis plans supporting technical work and projects;
  • Review and approve engineering analyses;
  • Lead a team of engineers/technologists in conducting structural analysis of aircraft design;
  • Participate in aircraft modification projects;
  • Support failure investigations;
  • Liaise with other engineering departments and provide engineering support to other company divisions;
  • Prepare engineering cost estimates;
  • Prepare certification plans, compliance programs and establish basis of certification for civilian and military modifications;
  • Develop and maintain a set of engineering airworthiness procedures and process manuals, compatible with procedures and policies of the branches and departments (primarily Engineering, QA and Production);
  • Prepare or lead the preparation of formal reports and other engineering deliverables; and
  • Other job-related duties as tasked or required.
What You Will Bring:
  • Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering
  • 10 - 20 years' experience in aerospace engineering.
  • Eligibility for membership in, or member in good standing of, the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (APENS) or equivalent.
  • Excellent knowledge of aircraft structures, knowledge of aircraft systems; experienced in aircraft design and modification
  • Extremely knowledgeable in structural analysis techniques including:
  • Development of loads/spectra
  • FEM and methodology classical stress analysis (static), fatigue analysis, damage tolerance analysis
  • Knowledgeable in on-aircraft testing and data collection
  • Experienced in the collection, reduction, analysis and trending of engineering data
  • Experienced in the development of aircraft inspection and maintenance programs;
  • Knowledgeable of OEM engineering drawing data and systems;
  • Knowledge of military and commercial certification;
  • Extensive knowledge of the MS Office and MS Window environments.
  • Ability to work effectively with people at all levels within the organization and outside agencies.
  • Demonstrate a personal commitment to IMP Occupational Health, Safety and Environment policies. Continually focusing on your individual safety and the safety of others who may be affected by your work and to fully comply with all Federal Health and Safety Legislation.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement, Lean & 5S activities in your area.
  • Must be eligible to meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC- Contract Security Program, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
