Educational Assistant III

This position involves providing educational programming support for students with profound additional needs, both in and outside the classroom.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Providing instructional assistance in the classroom to meet the needs of students with additional needs.

• Implementing student-specific programming and building strong relationships with students.

• Providing general supervision for students struggling with behavior and engagement in a regular classroom setting.

• Supporting students' additional needs related to personal care, hygiene, medication, and first aid.

• Performing general duties such as operating school and office equipment, including personal computers and specialized equipment.

Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:

Qualifications

• Completion of an Educational Assistant/Para Educator program or related post-secondary education, or equivalent experience in caring for children/youth with additional needs.

• Experience working with children/youth, ideally with those with additional needs.

• Criminal Record with Vulnerable Sector Search and Child Abuse Registry Check required upon hire.

• Preferred additional qualifications: Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training, First Aid and CPR training, valid driver's license, driver's abstract, and access to a reliable vehicle.

• Strong judgement and problem-solving skills for handling sensitive situations with tact.

• Flexibility to meet varying academic, social, emotional, and behavioral needs of students.

• Ability to understand and respond to challenging behavior positively.

• Proficiency in operating school and office equipment and staying current with technology.

• Physical abilities consistent with the job requirements.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

Physical demands:

• Sufficient vision and hearing to perform job duties.

• Able to work in an active environment requiring various physical activities.

• Outdoor supervision during recess and lunch in changing temperatures.

• Assistance with controlling violent and aggressive behavior by students, if trained.

• Lifting and transferring students with complex needs regularly.

Working conditions:

• Exposure to noise and interruptions with conflicting demands.

• Fluctuating outdoor temperatures and weather conditions during supervision duties.

• Possible exposure to aggressive behaviors.

• Potential requirement to drive and supervise children in out-of-school activities.

Job Types: Full-time, Fixed term contract

Pay: $23.99-$28.97 per hour

Schedule: Monday to Friday
