Position Summary
We are currently seeking Access Control Personnel to join our team. This position reports to the Security Supervisor and/or Operations Manager, and the primary responsibility is to ensure security at employee access points to restricted areas, specifically in the ATB and Airside areas.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Verify and validate access permissions for individuals entering restricted areas, ensuring compliance with security regulations.
- Inspect deliveries to the restricted area, ensuring adherence to the Security Supply Chain program.
- Provide proactive assistance to all individuals, maintaining a vigilant presence without leaving the post.
- Report security breaches, safety concerns, suspicious activities, and any deficiencies (e.g., equipment failures, safety hazards).
- Maintain detailed logs of activities, incidents, and reports.
- Implement enhanced security measures as directed by the Airport Authority.
- Communicate security, safety, and criminal activities to the Operations Centre via radio.
- Conduct emergency evacuation procedures when necessary.
Skills, Abilities & Educational Requirements:
- Must hold a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Must always hold and maintain a Transportation Security Clearance (RAIC) for the duration of the Contract.
- Must possess a Valid AB Security License.
- Must hold an Emergency or Standard First Aid certificate.
- Personnel are expected to be physically able to perform the job assigned to them.
- Maintain a high level of radio proficiency.
- Required to be able to communicate effectively in written and spoken English, additional languages are considered an asset.
- Formal education sufficient for effective communication, including reading, writing and comprehension and effective decision making as required by the position.
Working Conditions:
- Work 12-hour shifts.
- May be exposed to prolonged periods of walking, sitting, or standing.
- May be employed indoors or outdoors in periods of inclement weather.
YYC is a highly regulated site with a multitude of high level and stressful situations that occur throughout each shift. YYC security guards are frequently placed in situations where they are required to be calm, physically fit, and able to process information and communicate efficiently. Ability to follow directions from SOC, supervisors, CPS, EMS, CFD without issue.
The primary responsibility of all YYC guards is to patrol, observe, report and respond to all suspicious activity within the Aerodrome and assist in mitigating any threat to aviation, physical plant, safety of guests, passengers, employees. YYC guards are frequently required to attend and assist in the following potentially stressful situations:
- Emergency response to various locations around the entire terminal.
- Assisting and dealing with unwanted guests, intoxicated individuals, agitated or abusive passengers or guests.
- Attending to all medical emergencies, escorts of responding agencies such as EMS, CFD, CPS. Exposure to deceased patients.
- Attending to and working in conjunction with partnering agencies along with the SOC in situations such as bomb threats, lost or missing persons, swift location of unauthorized individuals or potential threats to Aviation.
- Responding to duress, fire alarms throughout the terminal.
It is imperative due to the potential of extreme volatility, that YYC guards are able to stand/walk for up to 12 hours and able to cover the entire length of the terminal in a swift manner based on the urgency of each response or task. Further, YYC guards must possess the ability to remain calm and maintain a professional composure throughout each incident without fail.
