The role of the Data Architect is to expand the Government's use of data as a strategic enabler of corporate goals and objectives. This includes strategically designing, developing, and implementing data models for enterprise-level applications and systems. The incumbent also acts as the primary advocate of data processing best practices.
The incumbent is expected to work without supervision and supervise other staff on a project basis. As well, the incumbent may be responsible for small to medium projects or portions of medium-large projects.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Develop and promote data management methodologies and standards.
- Conduct research, evaluate and make recommendations on data warehousing components,
- including hardware, database management systems, ETL (extract, transform, load) software,
- data mining tools, and meta data management tools in support of procurement and
- development effort.
- Provides Data Architecture planning, creation, modification, and testing services.
- Collaborate with project managers and business unit leaders for all projects involving enterprise data.
- Document the data architecture environment in order to maintain a current and accurate view of the larger data picture.
- Provide support for the data warehousing environment.
- Diagnose and resolve data warehouse access and performance issues.
- Develop, implement and maintain change control and testing processes for modifications to data systems.
- Act as a leader and advocate of data management, including coaching, training, and career development to staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Graduation from college or university with a diploma or degree in Computer Science, Business Information Technology, Information Management or a related field.
- Demonstrated equivalencies will be considered.
- Significant experience (5+ years} in the Systems Development area of Information Technology field; Considerable experience (3+ years) in a data architecture or data modeling.
- Hands-on experience with data architecture, data mining, large-scale data modeling, and business requirements gathering/analysis.
- Strong understanding of relational data structures, theories, principles, and practices.
- Hands on knowledge of enterprise repository tools, data modeling tools, data mapping tools, and data profiling tools.
- Demonstrated expertise with repository creation, and data and information system life cycle methodologies.
- Ability to manage data and metadata migration.
- Experience with database platforms, including Oracle, and MS.SQL.
- Experience in managing small projects or managing parts of medium to large projects.
- The successful applicant must provide a satisfactory Criminal Records Check prior to beginning employment.
