About FRAFCA

Fraser Region Aboriginal Friendship Centre Association is a leading provider of after-school, summer, and college programs for over 3,000 students in the Surrey, BC area. We also provide transportation and special education services for over 300 students with disabilities in the Surrey, BC area.

The Director of Strategic Innovation (DSI) will play a critical executive/leadership role within FRAFCA. The DSI will develop and execute a strategic, innovative, and collaborative plan to engage community stakeholders such as funders and partners committed to evidence-based, culturally sound programs for the Indigenous population of Surrey and surrounding areas.

The Director will oversee the organizational strategy to engage stakeholders across British Columbia, driving results that build opportunities for FRAFCA program implementation in local communities. The Director will establish strategic partnerships with external organizations to expand and strengthen FRAFCA’s impact and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Spearheading FRAFCA’s Strategic Plan.
  • Supporting the ED in securing a permanent location for FRAFCA in Surrey:
    • Researching financing & partnership options for capital assets.
    • Networking in the community to find partners/donors.
    • Procurement of funding.
    • Ensuring stabilization and improvement of existing programs.
  • Leading expansion of FRAFCA services into the Fraser Valley:
    • Building organizational capacity to support high needs communities.
    • Researching to identify community needs in the Fraser Valley.
    • Networking and building relationships with community organizations.
    • Securing space & funding for expansion projects.
  • Successfully securing competitive grants and ensuring effective implementation.
  • Achieving strategic plan goals aligned with FRAFCA’s 2022-2027 strategic plan.
  • Timely submission of reports related to contracts and funding requirements.
  • Participating in the FRAFCA Cultural Committee to ensure awareness of cultural protocols.
  • Ensuring appropriate external communication by representing FRAFCA's values and culture in marketing and public relations.
  • Leading FRAFCA’s fundraising efforts with the leadership team.
  • Developing a team-based environment to motivate and inspire staff.
  • Conducting needs assessments for space/expansion in Surrey and the Fraser Valley.
  • Liaising with community stakeholders and building relationships with local host nations.
  • Coordinating with the ED to create a decolonization strategy for FRAFCA.
  • Maintaining and strengthening organizational governance and culture.
  • Representing FRAFCA at relevant committees, task forces, and public engagements.
  • Signing agreements and managing change aligned with strategic goals.
  • Making recommendations to the ED about strategic approaches and new programs.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or Management or equivalent experience;
  • Master’s degree in management as an asset;
  • Five years or more of program management experience;
  • Five years or more of non-profit experience, preferably within an indigenous organization;
  • Knowledge of indigenous cultures and history;
  • Proven success as a leader in Aboriginal Organizations.
  • Understanding of confidentiality within the organization and with stakeholders.
  • Proven success in multi-party negotiations and arranging partnerships.
  • Strong interpersonal, leadership, management, and organizational skills.

Special Requirements

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Criminal records check.
  • Knowledge of working with a non-profit and an Aboriginal organization.
