As a Trade Finance Advisor in the Guarantee and Standby Letter of Credit (LC) Department of Trade Finance Expertise Desk at National Bank, you’ll be a specialist in providing guidance and expertise as well as drafting texts of various types of guarantees e.g.: Bids, performance, advance payment, financial etc. With your coaching skills, your experience in trade finance products and your knowledge of standard banking practices and International Chamber of Commerce Publications, you’ll have a positive impact on our clients and partners and be able to provide appropriate solutions.

Your role:

  • Review proposed templates of texts and provide red-lined modifications if necessary
  • Seek appropriate credit approval from proper authorities and/or Export Development Canada
  • Answer 1-800 phone line
  • Guide clients on how to fill in our application form
  • Participate in calls to clients with Account Managers in explaining our services and helping to structure transactions
  • Process transactions within our established delivery standards
  • Act as coach to more junior colleagues
  • Verify demands for payments presented to ensure they are compliant
  • Verify all transactions in terms of risk assessment and internal compliance restrictions
  • Maintain good communication with sales force

Your team:

As part of the Guarantee and Standby LC sector, you’ll be on a team of 12 colleagues, and you’ll report to the Manager, Guarantee and Standby Letter of Credit Dept. Our team is part of an umbrella group called Trade Finance Expertise Desk which also includes Documentary Letters of Credit and Documentary Collections as well as a Back Office team with whom we work collaboratively. Together, we all report to the Senior Manager of Trade Finance Expertise Desk.

Prerequisites:

  • Bachelor's Degree related to the sector and 4 years of relevant experience or Master’s Degree related to the sector and 2 years of relevant experience
  • CSDG or CDCS certification
  • Experience in an advisory role in International Trade as well as with trade finance products such as Guarantees, Standby LCs, Documentary LCs.
  • Good knowledge of ICC brochures, UCP600, URDG 758, ISP98
  • Knowledge of SWIFT
  • Knowledge of Trade360 an asset
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Analytical and ability to propose suitable solutions
