About Us
The Western Apartments provide on campus accommodations for upper year students in an apartment setting. While it adheres to Ontario Residential Tenancy Act regulations, the Western Apartments attempts to provide “value added” services to the student population.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Associate Director, Off-Campus Housing & Western Apartments, the Rental Clerks are responsible for the day-to-day operations of Rental Offices located in Platt’s Lane Estates (PLE) and the University Apartments (UA). As the front line customer service staff, they are responsible for providing and coordinating services for current and prospective tenants. This includes: answering inquiries regarding applications/eligibility/rent, offering units, preparing leases, accepting rent payments, processing tenancy renewals, forwarding maintenance concerns to the Maintenance Assistant or Facilities Management. Using their knowledge of unit availability, application trends, the academic cycle, and special requests (e.g. transfers or ending leases early), Rental Clerks are expected to provide high quality service while maximizing occupancy/revenue.
The Rental Clerks will be many tenants’ first point of personal contact at Western and will frequently be asked by tenants how to access resources and services provided by both Western and the London community.
Qualifications
Education:
- 2 year Community College Diploma in a related field (e.g. Office Administration, Hospitality Management)
Experience:
- 2 years customer service experience (front line, in person contact with customers)
- Experience working with database/room reservation/assignment system (e.g. experience tracking applications, taking payments, applying to appropriate account and making deposits)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proven ability and natural inclination to interact with people in a professional, respectful and diplomatic manner
- Strong customer service skill to handle inquires and resolve issues in a timely manner
- Positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- A strong record of teamwork with the motivation and ability to work independently with little supervision
- Possesses a reputation of resourcefulness with a strong sense of accountability and initiative
- Ability to establish and build healthy working relationships with clients, peers, and external stakeholders
- Ability to work well under pressure and use good judgement in assessing difficult situations
- Ability to handle multiple conflicting priorities in a fast paced environment with conflicting deadlines
- Basic computer skills for Microsoft Office Excel and Word
