Overview

Dillon’s Environmental Sciences technical group is looking for a Junior Environmental Professional (EIT) or Technologist to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience.

Responsibilities

What your day will look like

Field Work

  • Coordinate and complete field work associated predominantly with contaminated sites projects locally, with opportunities to work in Eastern Canada and in remote or northern communities
  • Conduct Phase I, II & III ESAs, hydrogeological investigations, hazardous building material assessments, soil/groundwater/surface water/sediment/soil vapour sampling programs, and contaminated site remediation projects
  • Complete environmental field activities including multi-media (e.g. surface water, soil, groundwater, air and sediment) data collection and analysis; supervision of sub-contractors during intrusive investigations including drilling programs; and completion of field notes
  • Assist with the preparation and presentation of technical reports and proposals which include database updates, borehole logs, summary tables, groundwater contour plots and figures
  • Identify and interpret relevant provincial and federal legislation as they apply to project activities, including regulatory notification preparation
  • Collaborate with and assist project managers and team members including biologists, engineers, planners, and environmental scientists

Qualifications

What you will need to succeed

  • A degree or diploma in environmental or civil engineering, environmental or civil engineering technology or environmental sciences
  • One to two years' experience in environmental consulting will be an asset
  • Strong desire to learn
  • Strong work ethic with genuine interest in environmental programs and field work
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies will be an asset
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Travel for up to two weeks at a time may be required


Experience

  • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication, and organizational skills
  • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated abilities to work in multidisciplinary team and independently
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office i.e. Excel and Word
  • Knowledge in several of: geology, hydrogeology, field procedures, contracting/construction, chemistry, geotechnical concerns, remediation, engineering, site characterization, health and safety will be considered an asset
  • Experience in phased site assessment and remediation and/or hazardous building substances survey will be an asset
  • Experience with groundwater sampling, surface water sampling, slug tests, data loggers will be an asset
  • Experience with soil and sediment sampling will be an asset
  • Experience in laboratory bottle orders and chain of custody completion will be an asset
  • Experience working around heavy equipment, including drill rigs and excavators will be an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant provincial, and federal environmental legislation and policies will be an asset
  • Proficiency in AUTOCAD, GIS, Surfer, GINT or database abilities will be an asset
