Introduction

Indigenous Excellence in Education is responsible to provide leadership and direction to address systemic barriers and inequities that currently and historically have impacted Indigenous student achievement. The division leads the development, review, and implementation of policies and initiatives related to Indigenous education, educational equity, system-wide change, and assesses provincial programming, standards, and reporting requirements. The division facilitates and maintains relationships with community, education stakeholders, and Indigenous rights holders to challenge systemic racism and barriers to equity throughout the K-12 education system particularly for Indigenous students and families in Manitoba.

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Post secondary education in social sciences, education, public policy or other relevant education. A suitable combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
  • High degree of knowledge and skills related to community engagement, anti-racism, and equity.
  • Knowledge of anti-racism practices in education.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supervisory experience including providing direction and performance management.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills with shifting priorities and deadlines.
  • High level of political acumen to deal with conflict in politically sensitive environments
  • Excellent problem solving an analytical skills.
  • Excellent written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills

Desired:

  • Knowledge of legislation and regulations governing provincial education.


Duties:

The Coordinator of the Anti-Racism and Equity Unit is responsible for the supervision of staff and the allocation of resources for programs within the Unit. This position is responsible to provide system leadership in policy and program development focused on anti-racism and equity initiatives within the department and across Manitoba school divisions. The coordinator selects and assigns staff to projects; reviews and monitors work plans, supervises staff, and develops and implements programs within a government policy framework. The coordinator reports to and provides advice and assistance to the Director of Indigenous Excellence, on matters related to work functions of the unit. The coordinator is also a member of the Indigenous Excellence Leadership team.
