Support Staff Temporary Roster
CBE Human Resources manages a roster of contingent casual on-call workers who are engaged to temporarily replace staff absences and to work on short-term assignments. Work assignments may be scheduled in advance or the morning of the job. Casual roster staff enjoys the flexibility of working in schools and departments full-time or part-time with a minimum commitment of two days per week. If you are looking to work casually or if you would like to gain experience to move into a continuous position, the Support Staff Temporary Roster may be the opportunity you are looking for.
We are looking for committed people who have completed high school, have six months of related experience in a food services facility that includes cooking, grill work, deep fat frying, and extensive menus and possess the provincial certification in Safe Food Handling. Standard First Aid/CPR is an asset.

Position Description
Responsibilities
Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:
- Possession of very good interpersonal skills and a strong customer service orientation.
- Adaptable to the needs of the students/patrons and possess the ability to be creative with food and menus.
- Willingness to upgrade knowledge and skills by taking advantage of in-service training opportunities.
- The ability to appreciate and effectively relate to and communicate with students and staff in a team setting is required.
- Well-developed organizational and time management skills.
Food Preparation and Service:
- Assists the immediate Supervisor in the preparation and sale of a variety of food items, including hot meals that foster the nutritional choices established by the CBE nutritional guidelines.
- Adheres to all the food and safety regulations governing the handling, preparation and serving of high-risk foods, as defined by the Calgary Health Region.
- Serves and replenishes food in an efficient manner.
- Performs food preparation, set up and clean up tasks.
- Assists the immediate Supervisor in the receiving and storing of foods, and with inventory.
- Operates the cash register, adhering to financial guidelines for handling cash.
- Assumes responsibility for the operation of the food services facility in the temporary absence of the immediate Supervisor.
- Performs other related food services duties as required.
Student Supervision and Interaction:
- Supervises and interacts with students by focusing on the positives, modeling, and encouraging appropriate behaviour and manners.
- Remains alert to all situations that may represent a risk to students.
- Responds immediately by taking appropriate action to reinstate a safe, secure environment.
- Communicates effectively with students and staff to build rapport, ensuring tact and diplomacy when problem-solving.
Administrative Tasks and Record-Keeping:
- Records student attendance, absences, accidents, and behavior issues for data-driven assessments, always ensuring the confidentiality of student information.
- Attends related meetings and serves as a liaison with the school Principal or designate.
- Performs other related responsibilities as assigned to meet the purpose and accountabilities of the role.
Professional Development and Communication:
- Participates regularly in educational appropriate activities, scheduled programs, and workshops to enhance related knowledge, strategies, and skills.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma.
- Six months of related experience in a food services facility that includes: cooking, grill work, deep fat frying, and extensive menus.
- Possession of provincial certification in Safe Food Handling is required.
- Standard First Aid/CPR is an asset.
NOTE: This position requires lifting and carrying demands that range from limited to medium. There are a few tasks that are in the heavy lifting category (lifting over 20 kilograms), however co-worker assistance is available for such tasks as setting up tables, thereby making it a medium level position (lifting from 10 to 20 kilograms) for each worker. In addition to lifting from ground to above shoulder level, this position requires bending, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, walking, standing, sitting, and using hands in the preparation of foods, and the cleaning and moving of tables.
