We are currently seeking a contract Microbiology Technician for approximately 12-months to join our team in Calea Calgary at 7111A 6th Street SE.

Schedule

Must be available to work shifts between the hours of 7am-7pm, Monday to Friday, and occasional weekends and overtime as required.

Position Summary

Under the direction of Senior Manager Quality, the Microbiology Technician is responsible to perform rapid sterility testing of finished TPN (Total Parenteral Nutrition) product batches using ScanRDI system and equipment. Responsibilities include planning, setting up and testing samples as per approved procedures and methods, perform OOS investigations and identify appropriate actions to address gaps, perform environmental sampling/monitoring, assisting with daily maintenance of the laboratory and lab equipment and perform other related tasks

Principal Accountabilities

  • Perform sterility testing of finished product samples as per approved procedures and methods, and complete all related documentation for product release
  • Perform environmental monitoring and aseptic processing of the samples. Support CAPA process, training, calibration and preventative maintenance, documentation, validation and change control program.
  • Perform quality investigations, investigate non-conforming test results for product impact, root cause analysis, evaluate results to provide conclusions and determine appropriate actions.
  • Develop SOPs and protocols for microbiology methods, testing process and process validation as required
  • Acts as SME on Microbiology and training of personnel on Microbiology methods and process
  • Participate in self-inspections; verification of aseptic processing, product storage, testing and release to minimize quality risk.
  • Assist in data trending and analysis, maintenance and improvement of quality KPIs. Maintain KPI Database, and associated Records and Reports.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and facilitate process improvements, make recommendations as required.
  • Performs any other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology or related field and 1-2 years microbiology laboratory experience
  • Experience in Sterile Compounding environment and aseptic technique is an asset
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office tools and computer experience is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Quality Control procedures and Aseptic processing principles, Quality Risk Management and Root Cause Analysis

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Excellent customer service skills and the ability to collaborate with all levels both inside and outside the organization
  • Microbiology background and aseptic processing experience
  • Gram Stain/ID knowledge and identifying microbes and bioburden experience
  • Strong computer skills in MS Office Excel database management/development
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multi-task and handle fluctuating workloads
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
