Overview
Vertex is currently accepting applications for full-time, permanent Intermediate Environmental Scientist(s) to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and executing upstream oil and gas and industrial projects in accordance within Vertex guidelines and project scopes. This role will focus on reclamation & remediation projects including, development of work plans and cost estimates, initial assessment of sites for potential impacts, conducting assessment work, completing, and managing monitoring programs in Alberta, reclamation site inspections, detailed site assessments, and supervision of light duty reclamation work. This individual will play a critical role in the execution of all aspects of the project while delivering a cost-effective approach that exceeds our client’s expectations.

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATION
- Diploma or higher education related to environmental sciences, biology or other related discipline.
- Currently possesses or qualified to obtain a professional designation (or in training designation) applicable for conducting professional sign off in Saskatchewan.
- Minimum 3 to 7 years of environmental work experience in the following:
- Phase I and Phase II program execution
- Remediation
- Reclamation
- Groundwater monitoring
- Spill response
- Detailed Site Assessments
- Vegetation management/reclamation site inspections
- Project management experience is an asset – cost estimates, scheduling, budget tracking client interactions and communications.
- Experience in executing upstream environmental assessment, remediation, and reclamation projects.
- Willingness to work in the field for extended periods of time; willingness to travel within Western Canada as required
- Excellent communication and technical reporting skills
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Working knowledge of contaminated sites and reclamation regulations in Saskatchewan
- Hydrogeology background is considered a strong asset
- Experience with developing assessment, remediation or reclamation cost estimates is an asset.
- Spend up to 50-70% of work hours performing technical field activities on environmental projects.

- Regulatory submissions
- Responsible for project coordination, cost control and project scoping to ensure effectively versatile solutions are developed to meet client’s regulatory needs and budgets
- Responsible for both field and office execution of environmental projects with an emphasis on field work
- Active stewardship of Vertex and client safety programs is expected.
- Responsible for building relationships within Vertex, with regulators and clients to effectively develop and manage projects within the environmental business unit.
- Mentor and coach junior environmental staff
- This position will be based out of our locations in either Sherwood Park, AB or Calgary, AB.
