The Geotechnical Engineering team is responsible for the design and quality assurance of pit walls, stockpiles, out of pit and in pit waste dumps, and fluid-retaining structures. In this role, you will be an integral part of our team working with engineers to design and construct tailings dams, waste dumps and pit walls. The positions offered in geotechnical engineering are a blend of office and field work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support Engineers of Record and Resident Geotechnical Engineers
  • Support the compilation and collection of reports
  • Support engineering analyses, drafting, reporting, and data entry
  • Participate in visual inspection of structures for Construction QA, Performance, and safety, including dams, pit walls, ponds, excavations, trenches, pipelines, pit faces, spoil piles, stockpiles, and overburden waste dumps
  • Support instrumentation monitoring
  • Assisting with preparation of technical and stewardship presentations/slides

Minimum Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate Geotechnical, Geological, Geomatics or Civil Engineering program at an accredited post-secondary institution
  • A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • You must be returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Attach your most recent transcripts with your application

Location and other Key Details:

  • This is an 8, 12 or 16-month work term starting in May 2025
  • Locations include Fort McMurray (Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo) or Fort Hills. Fort Hills is camp based, requiring Fly-in-Fly-Out of Calgary or Edmonton
  • Relocation support will be provided if required
  • Students who live and work in Fort McMurray are eligible for a cash allowance to address the cost of living and the remote nature of the region
