Job Description:
About the role:
You will be part of Sun Life Global Investment’s (SLGI) Risk, Governance and Controls team. This is a 1st line of defense function and is part of Sun Life’s governance framework. The team helps drive adherence to regulatory requirements and corporate risk policies as well as assessing the effectiveness of controls across the business and supporting control evolution.
You will have the opportunity to support SLGI’s insured wealth business which includes our industry leading segregated funds, annuities, GIAs, and Trust GICs. Although broad in scope the role focuses on the drivers of good market conduct and client fair treatment. This includes business processes and tools within Sun Life as well as through our distribution partners. This role will be an excellent fit if you’re looking to move beyond an advisory function and want to help implement solutions and drive change. This role will report to the Director, Business Governance and offers the flexibility of a hybrid work style.
What will you do?
- You will directly support Sun Life’s purpose: To help Clients achieve lifetime financial security by:
- Helping our distributors meet or exceed industry standards for client fair treatment
- Identifying and following up on indicators of poor market conduct
- Developing and presenting distributor training
- You will support Sun Life’s three lines of defense model by:
- Helping our business partners proactively identify and manage risk
- Having conversations with the business about risk and driving change
- Working with the business, compliance and legal teams to develop solutions that address identified risks
- Building and documenting common sense but effective controls
What do you need to succeed?
- 7 - 10 years of experience in the Financial Services industry.
- 5 years of experience in market conduct compliance and/or oversight for retail insurance products is most relevant but experience from the securities industry may be transferrable.
- Strong partnership and relationship building skills including the ability to work effectively with leaders across the organization, as well as external partners and customers.
- Strong data management skills. You should be able to analyze large transaction datasets using Excel. This includes familiarity with the use of SQL and Pivot Tables or evidence that you could develop this skill set.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and organizational skills.
- Experience navigating governance processes in an OSFI regulated financial services company.
- A sense of curiosity
Preferred Skills:
- Ability to read, write and present in French is an asset.
