Mental Health Clinician

Reporting to the Manager – Mental Health Outpatient Program, the Mental Health Clinician will provide evidence based, time limited client centered Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and related therapeutic approaches to individuals with moderate to severe mental health issues. The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing comprehensive assessment and clinical intervention to address the psychosocial needs of MHOP clients. The Mental Health Clinician will possess strong clinical therapy skills and expertise completing comprehensive assessments, developing treatment goals, monitoring treatment progress and discharge planning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
- Minimum Qualification undergraduate degree required (Master’s degree preferred)
- Registered member in good standing with one of the following five Colleges regulated to perform the Controlled Act of Psychotherapy in Ontario: The Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers, The College of Nurses of Ontario, The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario, The College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario, The College of Psychologists of Ontario
- Experience related to client care for people from Indigenous, geriatric, and addictions and mental health populations
- Knowledge of community systems and resources for the purposes of networking between the facility/program and other services.
- Evidence of formal training in various treatment modalities
- Experience working in a community-based or outpatient mental health setting is preferred
Skills/Abilities:
- Ability to effectively manage a complex clinical caseload in an outpatient health care setting
- Superior interpersonal communication skills (oral and written)
- Ability to complete complex analysis, using advanced clinical knowledge, skill and judgement to synthesize assessment information and develop appropriate psychosocial treatment plans to address psychosocial stressors that impact well-being.
- Strong time management, prioritization and organization skills to effectively address multiple tasks/duties and timelines in a fast-paced outpatient clinical environment
- Analytical/critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision making skills
- Ability to use independent judgement and maintain confidentiality of records, actions, and information
- Demonstrated knowledge of the etiology and treatment of depressive and anxiety disorders, as well as OCD and PTSD
- Demonstrated knowledge of relevant sections of legislation (e.g., Mental Health Act, Personal Health Information Protection Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act) and professional standards to ensure compliance and consistency in provision of client care
- Comprehensive understanding of the social determinants of health of Indigenous people and the social consequences and associated risk factors
- Passionate about contributing to positive social change and commitment to anti-oppression and anti-racism
Assets:
- Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience working with Indigenous people and people of other diverse ethno-racial and cultural backgrounds is considered an asset
- Experience working with 2LGBTQ+ individuals is considered an asset
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC)
