As the Leader, Governance and Reporting in Climate & Environment, you will provide strategic planning and coordination of climate and environmental work across the corporation. You will lead a team to develop climate and carbon budgeting processes and deliver reporting tools and documents disclosing The City's progress toward its climate and environmental compliance requirements, goals, and targets. Primary duties include:

  • Develop corporate-wide plans, policies, tools, processes and standards to mitigate the financial, economic, environmental, and social impacts of climate change, advocating for corporate climate change and environmental goals and providing policy direction recommendations to executive leadership and Council.
  • Establish and integrate corporate climate and carbon budgeting processes into business planning, decision-making, funding and financing; develop tools for risk assessments, Greenhouse Gas (GHG) inventories, regulatory reporting, carbon asset management and forecasting.
  • Deliver a comprehensive climate and environment reporting framework, including various corporate and regulatory reports and showcasing the City's climate and environmental investments, action and risk management in compliance with evolving reporting and disclosure standards.
  • Oversee the quality control, standardization, technical assessment and analysis of climate and environmental data; develop and evaluate project assessment methods, processes, tools, and performance measures.
  • Lead a team of climate and environment professionals and strategists, including hiring, coaching, performance management, workload management, and people development.
  • Manage project budgets, expense tracking, and procurement.
  • Oversee assigned projects, including developing project charters, preparing Requests for Proposal (RFPs), evaluating responses and monitoring project status.


Qualifications

  • A degree in Science, Arts, Business, Political Science, Economics, Public Administration, Engineering, Planning, or a related field and at least 8 years of relevant experience.
  • Equivalent combinations of experience and education may be considered.
  • Experience in developing corporate-scaled strategies and implementation plans, public policy analysis, change management, and governance processes and reporting is essential.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience with multidisciplinary and matrix-based teams will be considered an asset.
  • A graduate degree in climate change, environment, or sustainability would be considered an asset.
  • Experience working in a complex and dynamic public-sector environment is preferred.
  • Must be able to address a wide range of complex strategic, political, and technical issues while aligning to policies, standards, and regulations.
  • The successful candidate will display political acumen, along with strong communication and relationship-building skills.
