The Opportunity
McElhanney has an exciting opportunity for a Civil Design Engineer / Technologist to join our Edmonton Engineering branch. We are seeking strong communicators with excellent design skills and experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D and associated design packages. Our transportation projects include various highway, rural, and urban road improvement projects, streetscapes, municipal underground upgrades, roundabouts, and light rail transit (LRT). The successful candidate will use their strong technical skills on a variety of design projects.

What You’ll Be Doing
The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $110,000 per annum , depending on education and years of experience. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual’s education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

What You’ll Be Doing
- Contribute to the cost effective and timely production of engineering designs, including roadways, drainage, and utilities that meet all client and approval agency requirements and standards.
- Transform road, municipal, bridges and culvert preliminary concepts and sketches into engineering designs, plans, and project informational requirements, using primarily AutoCAD / Civil 3D, as well as other technical software as needed.
- Coordinate and/or complete the preparation of documents required for approvals and assist with development of construction cost estimates, quantities, tender documents and contracts.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure schedules, budgets and quality control standards are achieved.
- Identify field and design issues and facilitate corrective measures, think independently.
- Degree / Diploma in Civil Engineering or Design Drafting Technology from an accredited university or college with 7+ years’ experience in civil design, with preference to 12-15 years’ experience.
- Proficiency in drafting and design using AutoCAD Civil 3D Software and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook & Project). Experience with Infraworks and/or other CAD/Mapping/GIS software is an asset.
- Knowledge of Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors Engineering Highway Geometric design guidelines, City of Edmonton standards and/or other municipal standards.
- Currently registered, or qualified to register as a Technologist (CET or P.Tech (Eng.)) with ASET or registered or qualified to register as an Engineer (EIT or P.Eng) with APEGA.
- Strong people skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with diverse individuals in a team environment.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail and flexibility to manage changing priorities on short notice.
