Museum Education Interpreter

Job Details: Part-Time
Posting Status: Open to all current Town of Oakville employees and external applicants.

Job Responsibilities:
- Conducting a variety of tours, educational programs, and craft workshops for children and adults using diverse and creative teaching methods, techniques, and tools
- Preparation and delivery of history-based education programs, guided tours, outreach and special education events
- Interpret for visitors during special events through demonstrations and activities
- Assistance with delivery of public programming and special events as well as the administrative functions of education programming
- Delivery of exceptional customer service and reception duties including:
o Program Registration and retail sales using PerfectMind Registration/POS system
o Providing information to customers and potential customers both over the phone and in person
- Delivery of exceptional customer service (including welcoming, conduct and communication) to all participants
- Support and promote the Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD)
- Performing physical daily program set up and clean-up as required
- Ensure the safety of education program participants, visitors and staff as well as protection of on-site resources
Qualifications:
- Graduate or current student of education, history, child studies, drama/arts, recreation or museum studies program
- Experience in the museum sector an asset
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Excellent customer service and problem solving skills
- Experience working with computers, including Microsoft Office Suite
- Previous experience working with registration systems would be an asset
- Ability to work in a team environment
- Strong organizational abilities
- Ability to operate with a minimum of direct supervision
- Good working knowledge of the Ontario curriculum
- Experience working with children an asset
- High Five Principles of Healthy Child Development (PHCD) certification is preferred
- Emergency First Aid AED/CPR BOr Standard First Aid AED/CPR C
- Access to reliable transportation
