Location
Lighthouse Shelter, Abbotsford
Days and Hours of Work
Friday through Monday. Shift times: 23:00 - 07:00 (Fri-Sat) and 23:30 - 07:30 (Sun-Mon). Shifts are 7.5 hours in length. Days of rest are consecutive. Schedule may change with two weeks’ notice. Probationary period: 488 hours with reviews. Night premium for staff working 50% or more of their shift between 0:00-08:00.
Salary
$27.92 - 29.60 depending on length of seniority (as per the Collective Agreement)
Job Summary
The Shelter Resource Worker (SRW) reports to the Site Manager and works according to Lookout's mission. SRWs provide direct service in a 24/7 emergency shelter for homeless adults facing issues like homelessness, addictions, and mental health challenges. Duties include intakes, orientations, and support for guests.
Job Duties
- Provide support, supervision, and assistance to homeless adults facing multiple barriers.
- Accept referrals, and share information with external resources.
- Refer guests to community services.
- Interview and provide basic necessities; ensure a safe environment.
- Complete required records and maintain statistical data.
- Support others in need within the shelter.
- Assist new staff.
- Comply with and contribute to health and safety programs.
Qualifications & Competence
- Related Certificate; or Grade 12 plus two years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Familiarity with community resources related to addiction, mental health, and harm reduction.
- Current Occupational First Aid Level 1 Certificate.
- Two doses of COVID-19 Vaccine.
- Crisis Intervention Skills, Naloxone, and Trauma Informed Practice training are assets.
- Ability to work independently or in a team.
- Strong stress management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Maintain clientele/worker boundaries.
- Work with disadvantaged and challenging adults in diverse environments.
- Two years of sobriety if previously had alcohol or drug concerns.
- Criminal Record Clearance – Vulnerable Sector required.
