Binnie is looking for a Water Resources Engineer to join our Water Resources Division. Our team works closely with other departments at Binnie. This includes our Transportation Design Group working on large infrastructure projects across BC, our Development & Infrastructure Group working on municipal works and private developments and our Landscape Architect Group working on parks and open spaces. We are looking for a dedicated engineering professional who wants to help design and build critical drainage infrastructure across the province and believes in incorporating resiliency and sustainability into their designs to help mitigate the impacts of climate change.


From our Burnaby office near scenic Deer Lake, you will work with our Water Resources team and technical specialists from other firms to provide the design and analysis of natural watercourses, urban drainage systems and storm water management projects. This is a challenging role offers great development opportunities.


Your Role

  • Performing water resources design work as the Engineer of Record
  • Where you are serving as the Engineer of Record, signing and sealing Engineering Design Drawings and reports completed under your direct supervision.
  • Carrying out or supervising the preparation of designs calculations and technical design reports
  • Carrying out hydrologic and hydraulic modelling for the design of highway systems (design of bridges, culverts, ditches, spillways, fish passage, detention ponds and enclosed drainage systems)
  • Preparation of construction plan drawings, details, and specifications
  • Giving design presentations to clients
  • Ensuring quality control procedures are completed as per Binnie’s Organizational Quality Management Policy (OQM)


What You Bring

  • 4- 9 years of progressive professional experience in the design of drainage infrastructure
  • Experience with BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure Hydraulic Design Guidelines, the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code, and EGBC Practice Guidelines
  • Registration as a P.Eng. with EGBC (or eligible for immediate registration)
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of GIS considered an asset
  • Working experience with hydraulic modelling software (HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, etc.)
  • Excellent communication and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently or cooperatively in a team environment
  • Experience with taking projects from proposal stage through conceptual design, detailed design and construction considered an asset.
