Your Opportunity:

Medicine Hat Addiction and Mental Health Outreach Team is looking for an experienced, skilled, enthusiastic and dynamic team member to fill the position of an Occupational Therapist ll. Reporting directly to the Manager of AMH Outreach, the Occupational Therapist II (OT II) will provide clinical mentorship in the form of leadership and supervision to allied health clinical services, as directed by management in the Outreach program. The OT ll and other allied health staff provide services to clients in the community who are experiencing addiction and/or mental illness, utilizing a client centered approach and recovery model. Applying the best evidence informed practice and using continuous quality improvement approaches, the OT II will ensure that service delivery is customized to meet the unique needs of the service recipients and stakeholders in an accessible, non-stigmatizing, and developmentally appropriate way. A significant aspect of this role includes efficient and effective use of resources with the ability to make changes for improved service delivery within his/her scope. This role will be responsible for carrying and maintaining a case load and may also participate in group development and facilitation. The OT II will establish and maintain high standards with respect to standardized assessments and this includes proper orientation, training, and leadership for all OT’s and for other support staff as needed. This position will work within a multidisciplinary (nurses, mental health therapists, mental health therapy assistants, peer support workers, social workers, rec therapist) Outreach team.

Description:

As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Three years previous experience working in a community setting. Ability to conduct sensory and environmental assessments. This position has been identified and is anticipated to transition to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in an addiction and/or mental health setting with clients who have mental health and/or addiction issues, developmental disabilities issues is an asset. Certification as an Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL) authorizer is preferred. Experience leading a team is preferred.
