NACG are seeking an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic/Shovel Technicians (Off-Road) to join our remote mining mobile site support team in the Fort McMurray area.

NACG are seeking an experienced Journeyperson Heavy Duty Mechanic/Shovel Technicians (Off-Road) to join our remote mining mobile site support team in the Fort McMurray area.
This is your opportunity to join one of the safest and largest contracts in the region.
For this role, NACG offers a combined gross rate of up to $74.45/hour as well as room for growth!
Where You’ll Be Working
- Site Mobile Support Crew, All sites (Suncor, Kearl, Syncrude, Forthills)
- Schedule 14 x 14, 12 hour days (paid for 11.5 hours). Days/Nights.
- Accommodations Camp is not provided. $15 Living Out Allowance per hour.
- Transportation Bussing is provided from Fort McMurray to site (before and after shifts).
- Overtime Provided after 8 hours in a day or 44 hours in a week.

- Vacation and Statutory Holiday pay allocated to each paycheck
- Earn up to 61 hours of overtime per 14-day rotation

What You'll Be Doing
- Complete repairs on CAT/Komatsu/Hitachi equipment of all sizes.
- Work on all sites as part of the Shovel Crew.
- Work closely with peers in both maintenance and operations.
- Preventative Maintenance and servicing of all equipment.
- Evaluate equipment performance and inspect to detect faults and malfunctions.
- Trouble shooting systems - example hydraulic, electrical & mechanical of all equipment and determine faults and extent of repair.
- Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturer specifications.
- Mobilization of equipment for maintenance and repair.
- Develop work scopes and schedules for equipment to be repaired.
- Order required repair parts, complete reports and fill out work orders.
- Teach and evaluate apprentices and mentor Mechanics.
- Follow NACG codes of practice and Safe Operating Procedures.
- Other maintenance duties as assigned.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience post Journeyman (Journeyperson) certification on large Shovels specifically. Experience on Haul Trucks/Dozers/Graders and Excavators is an asset.
- Possess excellent diagnostic and troubleshooting skills and abilities.
- Capable of working with minimal supervision.
- Exhibit professional work behaviors.
- Committed to continuous learning.
- Basic knowledge of computer applications.
- Demonstrate leadership skills in daily work interaction
- A valid Alberta Journeyman (Journeyperson) Equipment Technician (Off Road) Certificate or an Interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman (Journeyperson) Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic/Technician (Off Road).
- Experience with Cat SIS is an asset.
- Previous experience on a Safety Sensitive work site an asset
If you are chosen to move forward in our hiring process for a site-based role, you will be asked to provide the following
- Provide a valid Class 5 Driver’s License and a recent Driver’s Abstract
- Provide a valid copies of the following CSO, Silica Awareness, Wood Buffalo Wildlife Awareness, OHS Alberta Legislation Awareness and Hydrogen Sulphide Awareness. All tickets are to be completed through Energy Safety Canada.
- Be subject to Random Testing at Suncor, Suncor Fort Hills and Kearl sites
- Undergo and successfully pass the following pre-employment testing
- Breath Alcohol Test
- Urine Drug Test
- Fitness-to-Work Health Assessment
- Audiometric Testing
- Vision Screening
- Criminal Record Check
- Will receive a call from NACG to set up all required pre-employment testing
- An email will be sent with all required New Hire Paperwork to be filled out
- After all results and paperwork are received by NACG, candidates will be contacted by Site Admin to schedule orientation and confirm your start date and other site-specific details.
