Hours of Work: Per LOU “F” Monday to Sunday (rotating schedule) between 6:00AM – 2:00AM

Overview
The Planning and Development seeks a customer-oriented and self-motivated individual to join their department in the Bylaw Patroller role on a casual basis. Reporting to the Deputy Director, Planning and Development Services, the Bylaw Patroller is responsible for patrolling the waterfront and designated parks on foot to monitor, educate and ensure compliance with Parks Bylaws, Animal Control and Licensing Bylaw, and the Public Health Smoking Protection Bylaw. Customer relations and conflict management skills form a key component of the position requiring that the Bylaw Patroller interprets, bylaws, regulations and applicable rules to the public, including smoking, biking, dogs, inline skating and skateboarding.
Qualifications
- Completion of Grade 12, plus some related experience in regulatory or enforcement work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Requirements
Considerable knowledge of the regulations and bylaws related to municipal operations-
Exceptional interpersonal communication and conflict management skills Ability to explain and interpret bylaws and regulations to the public Ability to use sound judgement and make discretionary decisions Ability to prepare correspondence, reports and records related to work Ability to walk long distances and up steep slopes in all types of weather Ability to work on days, evenings and/or weekends including Statutory holidays Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety-first attitude Proficiency in the use of computer software including Microsoft Office Possess and maintain a valid Class 5 driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
