The Policy Analyst & Coordinator plays a key role in supporting member relations, policy, advocacy, and government relations work of BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA). This includes writing materials (such as briefing notes, policy papers and positions), and consulting with the Association's members and other key stakeholders. They also help plan and coordinate events such as the annual conference and other speaker sessions, including developing content, working with presenters and other event logistics. Additionally, they may support the management and leadership team with meeting preparation and documentation. The position reports to the Director of Policy & Workforce Development.
Duties And Responsibilities
Advocacy & Policy Analysis:
Travel maybe required on occasion, such as to the Association's annal conference in Whistler or Victoria, as well as to local events in the Metro Vancouver region.
This is a hybrid position - at least one day a week is to be worked physically at the Association's office in Burnaby.

The Policy Analyst & Coordinator plays a key role in supporting member relations, policy, advocacy, and government relations work of BC Care Providers Association (BCCPA). This includes writing materials (such as briefing notes, policy papers and positions), and consulting with the Association's members and other key stakeholders. They also help plan and coordinate events such as the annual conference and other speaker sessions, including developing content, working with presenters and other event logistics. Additionally, they may support the management and leadership team with meeting preparation and documentation. The position reports to the Director of Policy & Workforce Development.
Duties And Responsibilities
Advocacy & Policy Analysis:
- Track and monitor relevant policy and advocacy issues at the provincial, national and local levels.
- Prepare policy, advocacy and background materials - such as position papers, jurisdictional and environmental scans, talking points and presentations - for meetings and decision-makers, politicians, government officials and other sector stakeholders.
- Assisting in developing and implementing advocacy strategies to influence decision-makers.
- Write briefing notes, summaries, memos, policy positions and reports for senior leadership, board members, key stakeholders and the public.
- Develop content for newsletters, websites, and other communication channels to inform members about new and priority policy issues.
- Gather feedback from Association members on policy priorities and challenges, including working with Board committees, task forces and advisory councils.
- Liaise with other sector stakeholders - including government officials, non-profits, unions, regulatory bodies and other groups - on policy and advocacy issues.
- Represent the Association in policy forums, consultations, and other meetings with sector stakeholders.
- Coordinate the logistics for the annual conference, care to chat speaker series and other policy or stakeholder engagement events, including selecting topics, developing content, working with presenters, and other event logistics.
- Collaborating with the Communications & Events team to help promote events and ensure successful execution.
- Some data analysis from public data sources, surveys and membership database may be required.
- Summarizing and presenting results of said data analysis to help explain issues that are relevant to the sector or Association.
- Providing administrative support to the policy team, including scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and maintaining records.
- Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes, and distribute action items following committee meetings.
- Work closely with other BCCPA teams - including the Office of the CEO, Communications, Public Affairs and Events - to serve the interests of the Association's members.
- Strong interest and knowledge of British Columbia's health care system, particularly the seniors care and seniors housing continuum.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft clear and concise briefs, reports, and presentations for diverse audiences.
- Ability to present complex topics in an engaging and accessible manner through PowerPoint slide decks, written documents, and oral presentations.
- Superior analytical skills, including the ability to conduct background research, monitor issues, and gather information from various sources.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to evaluate policy positions, identify challenges, and propose actionable solutions aligned with organizational goals.
- Familiarity with legislative development processes and the broader political environment,
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to work cross-functionally with the various teams and departments.
- Strong consultation and facilitations skills to ensure effective collaboration with members and stakeholders, as well as relationship-building skills to maintain internal and external partnerships.
- Experience supporting working groups, task forces, and advisory groups to drive policy initiatives.
- Self-motivated and driven, with an ability to work independently while taking initiative to pursue new opportunities or address emerging issues.
- Experience with project coordination and organizational skills, ensuring adherence to timelines and deliverables.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and online meeting tools (Teams and Zoom).
- Ability to gain proficiency in other software (membership management, even management, WordPress etc.)
- Undergraduate degree in a related post-secondary field (public policy, government relations, public health, political science, gerontology, or equivalent) is required. A graduate degree, (e.g. Master of Public Policy, Health Administration, or a related field) or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is preferred.
- A proven ability to conduct policy analysis.
- Experience in British Columbia's health care system, including the seniors care and seniors housing continuum or non-profits is an asset.
- An understanding of both federal and provincial government structures and political processes.
