What you can expect from this position:
Reporting to the Manager, Ground Transportation Operations, this position will monitor all groundside transportation, ensuring standards are being met and dispatching contract staff. The incumbent will collaborate with internal and external partners to maintain high standards of safety, customer service, and operational efficiency within the airport's ground transportation network.
As a Specialist, Ground Transportation, you will:
- Monitor inbound traffic and curb congestion and re-deploy contracted staff to address congestion
- Respond to all ground transportation telephone calls and radio channels and dispatch contracted staff
- Oversee multiple ground transportation and parking monitoring systems and implement proactive measures, standard operating procedures ensuring customer service metrics are met
- Initiate the bussing SOP when Link trains go down, including call outs to GTAA bussing and contracted bussing companies
- Track weather activity and operations which may trigger contingency plans as the need arises i.e., Cold Weather Queuing, calling in peak period taxi companies etc.
- Act as a central point of contact for terminal operations ground side transportation internal and external partners
- Capture data using various GT systems to assist with ongoing investigations
- Liaise with all partners, including GT Contractors, GTAA security, Public Safety Officers and the GT Parking and Operations Team
- Adjust Variable Message Signs including locations and programming of messages
- Report concerns to the media relations team in the IOCC (Integrated Operations Control Center) i.e. garage closure, road closure etc., that will trigger social media communications.
- Operate a computerized data entry system for the logging and updating of events and dispatching the appropriate responder (s) required for an event
- Generate work orders, monitor the event, and records event status. Perform follow-up actions to update status of incomplete events and reports findings
- Maintain status logs of critical equipment and events for publication
This unionized position has an hourly wage of $41.72, based on a 37.5 hour work week. If you are the selected candidate, you must be available to commence the duties of the position once a selection decision has been made. As part of the competitive process, you will be required to complete a practical test.
This is the role for you, if you have:
- Post Secondary Diploma/degree with a focus on Aviation Management and/or Business Management and/or equivalent combination of education and work experience
- 3 years' experience in Airport/Airline/Ground Handler operations or similar experience in scale and complexity
- Experience with groundside transportation, parking operations, and dispatch and/or call centre environment is an asset
- Valid Ontario Provincial Driver’s License
- Ability to obtain and retain a Transport Security Clearance
Knowledge and skills you bring, that set you up for success:
- Knowledge of GTAA Ground Transportation operations including, roadways, parking garages and service providers
- Knowledge of Ground side maintenance protocols and Standard Operating Procedures
- Ability to train others on parking and GT systems
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and accurately in both written and oral forms through different mediums
- Ability to work on a variety of tasks simultaneously; using a Personal Computer, communications equipment and telephone, often during periods of stress and with considerable time constraints
- Ability to simultaneously monitor multiple radio channels, answer phone calls as well as handling face to face inquiries
- Knowledge of airport operations, including roles and responsibilities of the GTAA tenants, contractors and other agencies operating at TPIA
- Familiarity with Excel, Word and Access and the ability to run queries
- Knowledge of communication and dispatch equipment
- Knowledge of basic Fire and Police data gathering techniques
- Knowledge of terminal buildings including but not limited to; basic layout, curbs, passenger flows, primary and secondary security lines
- Ability to proactively analyze situations and implement contingencies
