Position Summary
Youth Care Practitioners (YCP) in each Healing Home program operated by The Link: Youth and Family Supports report to the Program Supervisor of the Healing Home and are responsible for implementing all aspects of the day-to-day functioning of the program. The YCP is expected to provide ongoing, culturally sensitive care while adhering to organizational policies and procedures. A major focus of their work with young people is to be a positive role model at all times and to intervene purposefully into the young people's daily life events in a manner which will help the young person reach the agreed upon goals of their time within the program. Youth Care Practitioners work from a needs-based, trauma informed, relational child and youth care approach as per the organization expectations and standards.

SALARY: $18.00.
HOURS OF WORK: Varied shifts including days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overnights

Primary Responsibilities
Duties and responsibilities of the Youth Care Practitioner
- Be aware of the whereabouts of the youth at all times as per program dictates and policies
- Interact with youth in a manner designed to help them achieve their goals
- Facilitate wake-up, bed-time and other daily routines
- Develop, manage, facilitate and direct all daily program activities
- Transport youth to appointments (medical and others) and any activities as required
- Provide direction, support and participation in daily chores or tasks with the youth
- Develop and implement household routines in conjunction with the Program Supervisor
- Record keeping and report writing as required
- Distribute and tracks medications as outlined by Provincial Licensing Standards
- provide first aid interventions as required
- Observes, evaluates and records daily life events according to the program recording procedures
- Work as a team to ensure consistency in the youth's experiences, daily goals and care plan
- Meal planning, grocery shopping, cooking and cleaning
- Maintenance and cleaning of the home, indoors and outdoors
- Ensuring all health and safety standards are being met
- Other duties as assigned
- Post-secondary education or a combination of education, work experience and lived experience may be considered
- Experience working with vulnerable youth
- Have read the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada Calls to Action and can communicate the calls relating to Media and Reconciliation
- Knowledge of trauma and resilience informed care
- Strong relationship building skills and experience in de-escalation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, a clear Child Abuse Registry check with acceptable Prior Contact checks and a clear Adult Abuse Registry check, all done within the last 3 months
- ASIST Certificate (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) preferred
- De-escalation training preferred
- Mental Health First Aid & Safe Talk will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of Indigenous customs, traditions, and beliefs will be considered an asset
