Purpose

Reporting to the Manager, Distribution, the Distribution Hand (Distribution) is an important member of the Rocky Mountaineer Team primarily responsible for filling orders received from the train, loading those orders onto the train, receiving orders into our warehouse, and general materials handling. This job is deemed Safety Sensitive. This position requires the incumbent to periodically access an active railway area where impaired performance could result a significant incident affecting the health and safety of team members, guests, team members, the public, property or the environment.

Key Areas of Accountability

  • Interpret and pick the requisitions, including beverages, linen, food, retail merchandise and general supplies, coming from the train and accurately pack them for transfer to the rail cars.
  • As needed, load and secure above detailed inventory onto pallets, for transport to other Rocky Mountaineer facilities
  • Once product is loaded on the rail cars, put these products away in their respective place, as directed by aides provided
  • Maintain accurate records of all inventory moved from the warehouse to the train and to other departments within the Kamloops Operations Centre
  • Operate equipment such as forklifts (if certified) and pallet jacks adhering to all safety protocols
  • Perform general maintenance on tools and equipment to ensure their proper functioning.
  • Receive orders as needed or requested
  • Maintain a clean warehouse environment by transferring cardboard recycling to the proper receptacle and take out refuse as needed
  • Participate in monthly stock take and inventory reconciliation
  • Complete various facility and warehouse duties that may assist other team members.
Safety
  • Comply with all Canadian Railway Operating Rules (CROR), and General Operating Instructions (GOI) and all other safety policies, procedures & rules
  • Identify, protect & report safety hazards to management & OH&S Committee
  • Must wear required PPE as prescribed by Rocky Mountaineer and host railways
  • Required to attend and maintain basic first aid level provided by Rocky Mountaineer
Operations
  • Support the successful execution of the Operating Plan
  • Support execution of provisioning work orders
  • Support operational targets and metrics
Mechanical
  • Ability to read and understand instructions pertaining to provisioning
  • Ability and willingness to train for and perform safely additional mechanical skills including forklift operations, jacks, or other relevant equipment and tasks
  • Maintain, and troubleshoot equipment
  • Support and advise other team members regarding product requisitions
  • Ability to work alongside external contractors while completing requisitions
  • Complete requisitions to a high degree of accuracy safely and efficiently

Qualifications

Education, Certification, Licenses

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Class 5 BC driver’s license
  • Forklift certification is an asset
  • First Aid Certification is an asset

Experience/Skills

  • Prior experience working in a warehouse is an asset
  • Qualification and/or proven knowledge in safe heavy equipment operations such as forklifts, cranes, etc. is an asset
  • Good communication skills
  • High attention to detail
  • Able to take personal accountability and be adaptable with a problem solver mindset
  • Able to work cross-functionally
  • Broadly comfortable using computers and other electronic devices

Work Environment

  • Physical demands will require lifting to 45 lbs. regularly
  • Rail industrial site that requires walking and sitting throughout the day
  • 24/7 operation that may require varied work schedules, primarily evening shifts
  • Indoor/outdoor working environment
  • 4/10 schedule: 4pm to 2am (no Saturdays)
