The Ministry of Environment is seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented team player to join its Fisheries Management Unit, Fish and Wildlife Branch. This position is headquartered in Prince Albert, with consideration to other provincial office centres, and reports to the Fisheries Management Specialist. The successful candidate will contribute to modeling of fish populations as well as GIS support for the unit.

In this position you will utilize existing data to model sustainable harvest of fisheries populations to ensure sustainability. You will also determine and support additional data collection for further refine models. You will also be the senior technical support on data management needs in the Fisheries Unit, as well as support on GIS needs. The position will also provide senior technical support on alternative assessment methodologies and data analysis to the Fisheries Unit. You will lead the provincial voucher specimen program and coordination with the Royal Ontario Museum for provincial fish distribution network. Travel and fieldwork are part of this position but will not make up a significant part of the job.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of population modeling; data management; federal Species at Risk programming; as well as have a strong working knowledge of GIS.

Typically, the knowledge and skills required for this position would be obtained through a Master's of Science degree in the biological sciences and several years of directly related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ability to travel to and work in remote locations and work flexible hours is a requirement of this position.
